Husky goes on ‘killing spree’ that leaves nearly 30 animals dead; owner facing charges

TOOELE, Utah — The owner of a female husky faces a slew of charges after the dog allegedly killed more than two dozen animals in the backyards of at least two Utah homes in just a couple of hours, according to KSTU.

Police caught the culprit – a 4-year old husky – and now her owner is facing nearly 30 misdemeanor charges.

One of the Tooele residents who lost several animals, Trip Kiss, runs a petting zoo with his wife to teach animal husbandry to children with disabilities. Chickens, ducks, peacocks, a turkey and a tortoise, are just a few of the zoo's residents.

In the early morning hours of Memorial Day, he said his motion sensors went off. When Kiss looked at the surveillance video, it showed a husky running around his yard and driveway. He said the husky was targeting his animals.

"He was chewing our goose that was at the back end there, he dug out the rabbits in their enclosure," Kiss explained.

In the video, Kiss said the Husky can be seen carrying away two rabbits. It trots out of the camera's view and into the dark.

When Kiss realized what was happening, he said the husky had already killed several of his animals.

"Two rabbits, two ducks, five chickens, a turkey, a goose," Kiss said.

He said the goose was specially trained.

"The goose was so friendly," Kiss said. "It would follow us around at Renaissance fairs, charities."

We had a female husky for over 10 years. She was a wonderful dog, you couldn’t ask for a friendlier pooch around people… but around animals it was another matter. On two separate occasions a bird flew into the house. Both times she jumped up over 3 feet and bit them out of the air.

All the lots are acreage out here-the one I live on is small-3 acres-I’ll find a bigger one because I want some goats. Even living on fenced acreage, I never, ever left my Husky unattended/alone outdoors and never went hiking in the woods without her wearing her harness and on her leash-Huskies and other close-to-wolf large dogs just have too strong a prey/hunting instinct for them to be loose or unattended. I’ve never had a small dog-and only one dog of mine was not on the “bad dog” list-an Aussie shepherd-might as well have been because she wanted to herd everything-with unnecessary roughness that would’ve caused death to a smaller creature. And since I live in the middle of nowhere I prefer the large guarding/working breed dogs-I always chose a female from a recommended kennel when I buy a puppy-I want a dog that is loyal and protective.

There was a true story driven movie about a team of Husky sled dogs that were left in very north country all chained up. It was an emergency and only the humans could be rescued before a sever storm hit and closed that area off for the Winter.

The dogs weathered the storm then waited until they got too hungry. Then they managed to break their chains; all but one. One believed the humans would return for her in time. She died. The others, having broke free, now need food. They were close to the ocean and Seagulls would fly over them. One of the Husky’s jumped way up and got one then the others saw what that one did then they all did it and ate their first meal in long time.

They survived the Winter until the humans returned expecting to see them all dead and chained up. I don’t know why they didn’t unchain them at least. They were surprise to find most of them alive and healthy; even happy to see their humans.

Eight Below was the name of the movie. Sad and inspiring at the same time.

I had a shepherd who killed one of my year old hens. I was surprised he did this because he knew the hens from when they were chicks. As I watched him kill the hen (I was too far to stop it) I noticed that he was "playing" with her as if she was a squeak toy then lost interest when she squeaked no more.

Could be that this husky thought those birds were squeak toys that move... till they didn't.

Totally typical of huskies. They have super abundant emotional energy and strength, and don’t have a mechanism that makes them want to go quit or go home.

We had a male husky who discovered one day that cats were fun to chew. From then on it was game over for cats wherever he went, and we lost favor with various neighbors.

They can also turn your couch into confetti if they’re bored and looking for something to do. The most beautiful dogs on earth, but wow do they make life interesting.

Don’t know about the tortoise, lol. I do know someone that’s two huskies got loose and went to the neighbor’s farm and killed about a dozen small pigs. Apparently, they were ‘show pigs’and quite an expensive breed. They ended up in court to get paid for the damages.

Something similar happened in the antarctic. A Japanese scientific party was evacuated and left the sled dogs behind. All h*ll then broke lose in Japan over this brutality. The very hangdog Japanese survey group returned next ‘summer’ to see if they could find any dog remains to incinerate and return for interment. Instead they found a pack of pretty healthy malamutes that were really happy to see people again. The malamutes discovered how tasty penguins were and from examining the scattered bones around the kennel it looked like they dined on a few seals as well.

You are of course correct. As someone else mentioned just about any predator could do yhat and here they get the same sentence. Ive told people that occasionally Ive had some abandon Fluffy the cat out here and they do it too because they arent hungry, theyre bored. I dont feel the need to fund their recreation.

Exactly

Huskies and northern dogs are the primary people killer in Canada and other northern lats

Google CANADA dog bite fatalities but they won’t bother

Why

Cause there are more of them

Like the problem we have with too many dogs that are or are called pit bulls

Any feral faced terrier mutt is now a pitbull

Geese are, at least among the domesticated farm birds, relatively smart and have a well defined social structure in the flock. They can be taught that the farmer is the "alpha" bird and going after humans invites your wrath. Its time consuming at first and yoy look like an idiot doing it but once you have an established flock it requires little reinforcement and the new ones learn from the old that you are in charge.*

*A mated pair walking their newly hatched goslings will always have the gander question your authority and the goose will summarily attack, even accidentally killing her hatchlings, if he fails to drive you off.

I’m just referring to geese in general, that last be in parks and ponds and such. Never came across a domesticated goose. Honestly, I have no interest in ‘meeting’ a goose. I truly dislike them.

Huskies killing smaller animals is a known trait of the breed. They’ll even kill another pet of the owner w/o warning. I had one once. Never again.

When I was a teenager, some people down the street owned a Siberian husky. One day, while it was being walked on a leash past our next door neighbor's yard, it broke free from the grasp of the kid walking it, leaped our neighbor's fence, grabbed their little dog who was sleeping on the grass between its owners and tore it into pieces. The little dog survived and was put back together at the vet's. The family gave the husky away to a farm. Not longer after, the husky had killed 5 ducks and was put down. I would never own a husky, even if you gave it to me free.

“Two rabbits, two ducks, five chickens, a turkey, a goose,” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That’s just a regular Husky lunch.

Animals will be animals. The world of fang and claw. Why the shock?

That’s why most municipalities require dogs to be tied, kenneled or on a leash.

The damage is indeed the Husky owners responsibility. Its not the dog’s fault. The dog was being a dog.

My friend’s husky killed a whole family of possums that tried to sneak through its yard.
