We had a female husky for over 10 years. She was a wonderful dog, you couldn’t ask for a friendlier pooch around people… but around animals it was another matter. On two separate occasions a bird flew into the house. Both times she jumped up over 3 feet and bit them out of the air.

There was a true story driven movie about a team of Husky sled dogs that were left in very north country all chained up. It was an emergency and only the humans could be rescued before a sever storm hit and closed that area off for the Winter.

The dogs weathered the storm then waited until they got too hungry. Then they managed to break their chains; all but one. One believed the humans would return for her in time. She died. The others, having broke free, now need food. They were close to the ocean and Seagulls would fly over them. One of the Husky’s jumped way up and got one then the others saw what that one did then they all did it and ate their first meal in long time.

They survived the Winter until the humans returned expecting to see them all dead and chained up. I don’t know why they didn’t unchain them at least. They were surprise to find most of them alive and healthy; even happy to see their humans.

Eight Below was the name of the movie. Sad and inspiring at the same time.
