Bill McRaven, former chancellor of the University of Texas System and a current UT-Austin professor, resigned on Aug. 20 from the Pentagons technology advisory board, multiple news outlets reported Thursday.
His resignation came four days after The Washington Post published an opinion piece he wrote that criticized President Donald Trumps decision to revoke the security clearance of former CIA director John Brennan.
Through your actions, you have embarrassed us in the eyes of our children, humiliated us on the world stage and, worst of all, divided us as a nation, McRaven wrote. If you think for a moment that your McCarthy-era tactics will suppress the voices of criticism, you are sadly mistaken.
The board McRaven resigned from was a group of technology leaders and innovators tasked with advising the secretary of defense.
McRaven, a retired four-star admiral and Navy SEAL, teaches classes at the LBJ School of Public Affairs. He majored in journalism at UT.
majored in journalism
Military service is not a cure.
As they say on the campus....”Hook ‘em Horns”....think he got hooked by the austin libtards!!!!
I loved UT for decades but now would not let a child go there and they get NONE of our $$$$.
Thats entirely possible. Even being retired, he is still subject to the UCMJ, and he violated it, with his tirade. Maybe someone reminded him of that, so he thought he had better hit the road.
“And lots of commendations including the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit.”
Does the bronze star have a combat V?
Legion of merit is a good-conduct medal for flag officers.
His hate is bizarre and unhinged
Jeez, I don’t know what you have against a pilot that crashed by flying into power lines, crashed again off Spain while clowning around (claimed engine quit, accident board found that his throttle setting was too low for the turn he was attempting), and crashed a jet trainer on his way to a college football game. And his wife left him when his numerous extramarital affairs got back to her.
This guy destroyed more aircraft through bad flying than he ever shot down in the war, I don’t call that a successful career. There’s not a former colleague anywhere that will submit that John was even a mediocre pilot. The best they can say about him is that had guts. My take is that he had such a poor level of pilot knowledge that most times, he was never aware that he should’ve been scared. Getting shot down in ‘Nam was the best thing that ever happened to him. That fact automatically makes you a jerk if you criticize his very poor war record. Fine, I’m a jerk and I’m not scared to tell it like it is.
He is absolutely subject to UCMJ as long as he keeps cashing that check. Someone reminded him.
Next up on MSNBC, McRaven.
Did he resign on principal or was he forced off?
Went from Ensign to 4-Star Admiral with a journalism degree from UT instead of Annapolis.
Want to hear his stories from being a Seal back in the Reagan era.
There are lots of liberal officers doesn't mean they weren't good sailors or soldiers.
Jimmy Carter was on the fast track as a nuclear submariner when his father died and he went back to Georgia to take over the farm.
George McGovern was an awesome B-24 pilot.
if he ever had a security clearance, I hope he doesn’t have one now.
His story should’ve been that his kid got on his computer that was cued-up to the news site, wrote the story, and hit ‘send’.
Interesting, given that the op to get bin Laden was undertaken to make Obama look good in an election year, and left the informant who helped bag bin Laden behind in Pakistan where he was thrown in prison.
and JFud Kerry won the purple heart and no name was some kind of hero.....
Fag. (McRaven)
.
He should be prosecuted for the security breach, and given a mental competence examination.
Loose cannon on the deck!
You seen
Bin Ladens body?
As an Air Force retiree, I am also embarrassed by the left wing generals, who pollute the Air Force as well. I just cant believe they were like this as 2nd LTs.
This journalism major must have failed to read much of the history of nations, including that glorious history of the men and women of 1776 and 1787 who declared independence for a nation, and then set about framing a Constitution to expand liberty for individuals and to severely limit government power--thus freeing the human capacity for creativity, productivity and prosperity which, within just a few years, resulted in America literally feeding the Old World!
By the end of the Obama presidency, government rules and regulations on individuals and their ability to be free had strangled productivity, destroyed industries, and discouraged the human initiative among the very classes who needed it most. And that sentence overlooks the constant needling on issues which, instead of improving outcomes, resulted in division.
If you have encouraged Administrations who have brought American ingenuity and advancement to the standstill of 2016, then it is you who have "embarrassed" us "in the eyes of our children," despite your years of service in our defense, for which we are grateful.
Yup, he takes it up the back side.
