Senate Democrats have referred a letter concerning Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to the FBI for investigation.
This matter has been referred to the FBI for investigation, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat and a member of the Judiciary Committee, told BuzzFeed News on Thursday about the letter.
A source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Hill that the letter had been referred to the FBI for investigation.
The letter has been the subject of days of intrigue on Capitol Hill but the contents of it have not been publicly disclosed by senators who have seen the document.
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) was given the letter by Calif. Rep. Anna Eshoo (D), according to multiple reports.
But Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, has refused to answer multiple questions about the letter over the past two days.
She confirmed in a statement on Thursday that she had referred the matter to federal authorities.
"I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further," Feinstein said.
"I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities," she continued.
Questions about the letter boiled over on Wednesday after The Intercept published a piece saying Feinstein had refused to share the content of the letter with other members on the committee.
Sources told The Intercept that the letter was relayed by an individual affiliated with Stanford University. Some sources told the publication that it was about an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school.

Its a state offense and Kavanaugh wasnt a federal official as a teen.
Nothing to do with his current life.
It’s gotten to this.
They would not believe Bill Clinton raped a woman, as an adult AND Attorney General of Arkansas, but they will throw out some allegations of some vague recollections of a high school girl from 40 years ago....................
Every time I think it’s not possible to despise these people any more than I do I am proven wrong.
Lying for Liberals: we make it up, do you don’t have to
another fake dossier

Not credible.
even mclame supported kavenaugh
Well, we expect that from them. What ticks me off is that we now know that RINOs are only too happy to join the Dems in doing Dirty Work. This is a reminder of why I am glad John McCain is no longer a functioning member of the Senate as he would no doubt help the Dems.
Because the letter was secret and generally unknown, my guess is it was “X”.
You left out another key player.
Even though the old bastard is now worm chow - I have no doubt he would have had a hand in this while he was still alive.
For sure McCain would have approved of this gimmick.
Just have the damn vote and move on to the next judge!
That's nothing. There's a girl he knew from Kindergarten who has allegations.
Anonymous letter.
You cant prove a negative. So theyre starting a whispering campaign.
So, he has been a Judge all this time, went through the confirmation process before and suddenly, this comes up. I believe it, I believe it. /s
Starting a whispering campaign. How Clintonian of them.
I heard he stole a pencil from a girl in 2nd grade.
