President Bill Clinton nominated Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the Supreme Court in June 1993. She was confirmed two months later by a vote of 96 to 3, and not a single senator asked her about her ten years litigating cases for the ACLU, she said in an appearance on Thursday.

“I wish I could wave a magic wand and have it go back to the way it — the way it was,” Ginsburg told a gathering at the George Washington University Law School. […]

“The way it was, was right. The way it is, is wrong,” she said, drawing applause from the audience.

Ginsburg continued: “The atmosphere in ’93 was truly bipartisan. The vote on my confirmation was 96 to 3 — even though I had spent about 10 years of my life litigating cases under the auspices of the ACLU and I was on the ACLU board as one of their general counsels. My White House handlers asked me questions about my ACLU affiliation. They were very nervous about it. And I said, ‘Forget it; just forget it. Nothing you can do would lead me to badmouth the ACLU.’” …

Was someone holding her head up for her when she uttered this?

Well dig ol’ Teddy Kennedy up and scream at him, because more than any other one individual he’s responsible for this.

“I would tell Egypt not look at our Constitution when making their new Constitution’ - Ginsberg. (Paraphrased)

You outed yourself with so many comments similar to this one. YOU couldn’t be confirmed today, nor would Kagan (at least I would hope that neither of these women could be confirmed)

I remember that. She recommended South Africa’s constitution, which is yet another derivative of Stalin’s 1936 USSR constitution.

What if she actually got that magic wand. Her wish of being the most beautiful woman in the world would result in her competition of Kate Upton,Penelope Cruz,Melania and all the others becoming uglier than she, while Ginsberg remained exactly the same. Satan is cruel.

Ginsberg’s nomination may have been bi-partisan - but I kinda suspect that it was one of the last ones that’ll ever be that way.

The Bork nomination in ‘87 completely changed the rules. And who do we have to blame for that?

Ted Kennedy, Joe Biden and Patrick Leahy

Ginsburg got lucky. If her nomination were coming up today, there’d be the same level of rancor.

Well, the very conservative Scalia got 93 votes as well. I can’t imagine a conservative like Scalia getting even 60 votes today, with far left crazies like Kamala Harris and Cory Booker in the US Senate.

So do I Ruthie, trust me, so do I.
Any senile serving member of the Supreme Court who is clearly incapable of staying awake during the day should have retired decades ago.

Who's the law clerk writing hr opinions?
Kathy Griffin??

That’s not entirely true. In NY recently the ACLU has come to the NRA’s defense. Mind boggling I know, but true.

The ACLU is supporting the NRA's right to free speech in New York State.

I'm waiting for aclu to say they are supporting the NRA the same way they were supporting the nazis to march in the street some fourty years ago.

When push comes to shove we will find out which side the aclu comes down on, first or second amendment.

“The way it was, was right. The way it is, is wrong,”

Exactly correct. That us why we elected Trump: to return things to the way they were when it worked. We must obliterate the left entirely.

Sorry, Justice Ginsburg . . . you did wave your wand many times. You manufactured ideological decisions many times instead of following the Constitution and law. In so doing, you as much as anyone else, created a legal environment that encouraged leftist politicians to behave this way. . . you deserve much shame for putting our nation at risk, not adulation.

The GOP track record is not very good.

They allowed Bork to be pilloried.
They allowed Anita Hill to perjure herself against Thomas.
They approved Souter who was a leftist
They failed to grill Ginsburg
They gave a pass to Kagan and Sotomajor
They approved Roberts who may go down in history as a leftist

Offsetting this dismal record is the approval of Scalia, Alito, Gorsuch, and hopefully Kavanaugh.
