In what may be one of the more bizarre stories of 2018 so far, an undisclosed security threat has shut down a solar observatory in New Mexico, and angered local authorities in the process.

Ooooh. Tell us more...
K worked at the post office in Truro MA.
I’ve never been to the Trinity site, but know the area.
I lived in Silver City for a long time and traveled S. NM and S. AZ every week. (every other week in AZ)
Had a lot of excellent tech friends there who worked at NMU, Whitsands, Kirkland, Sierra Vista, AZ and other places. The local ham community was very unique there. I miss it.
That’s not even a moon...
ET phoned home!
Yep. WSMR tests all kinds of boring stuff but sometimes its cool and classified.

Sure, that’s what they wanted you to think.
Cloudcroft is in the deeply wooded Lincoln National Forest mountaintop area. We use to go up in December get a permit and cut down a Christmas tree. You could also get firewood too. Use to go Camping in the area too. Beautiful place.
Thanks for the info.
Who wanted me to think what?
I don’t remember much after some weird flash, and even then I’m not so sure of that.
;)
Yeah, my guess too...
“Ooooh. Tell us more...”
Well, one time, feds show up at the ranch when I am in the field — all civilian clothes, marked suburban, everyone with a sidearm and an AR-15 (or M4, no way I could tell).
I’m fixing an internal gate.
They get out, rifles pointing at me, slam me to ground and accuse me of trespassing and smuggling drugs.
Mind you, this is fee (not BLM or NM state or even Mescalero) land. I own it.
Cuff me, scream at me for a few hours, saying I am a liar for saying I am on my own land. They all had Yankee accents. Mixed group of people: FBI, Homeland Security, ATF.
They cut multiple chains on gates to get where I was.
Then release me, with no comment or explanation (or ride back home from ALBQ). My wife had to drive 2+ hours from Ruidoso to come get me. She had been panicking because the hands found my truck, keys still in it, tools everywhere. She assumed I had been taken by illegals or drug smugglers (both of which use our ranch as a highway).
I still assume it was retribution for complaining about the hundreds of illegals that cross the ranch every month.
I have great sympathy for Cliven Bundy, et al.
This observatory closure could be some great conspiracy and coverup, or it could be typical government incompetency.
Jeez Louise.
I thought you meant cool flying machines...
There are those, too. I saw B-1 bombers long before anyone knew they existed.
Recently, there’s a VERY fast white plane, fat and stubby, with very small wings (so small I couldn’t see them). This is the craft that keeps giving sonic booms and you can’t see it most of the time.
Fast, as in, way faster than F-15s that scream overhead periodically. Cruising supersonic.
I like the B-2. If I hadn’t seen an article about it before I first saw it fly over, I would have thought it was ‘alien’.
Wow! I'm glad my place is farther north than yours. They try that on my place, I'd be dead and so would some of them.
"Recently, theres a VERY fast white plane, fat and stubby, with very small wings (so small I couldnt see them)"
There aren't supposed to be any still operational, but a SR-71 flew over me at about 200 ft above last year, near Bingham. (It might have been a YF-12 or an A-12, but definitely was one or the other)
There was a Blackhawk helicopter, a bunch of people around antennas and work crews on towers but nobody would tell us anything.
Also closed the post office and evacuated people from the town.’
When they do this to the FBI headquarters, then we are getting somewhere.
The local post office is shut down.
What is this about?
As of now the neighbors who live in the community have no idea when they’ll be able to go back to their homes.
