Bookies placing odds on the identity of NY Times op-ed
American Thinker ^ | 09/06/2018 | Rick Moran

Whodunnit?  That's the question roiling social media and news websites around the world as the hunt is on for the identity of the anonymous author of a New York Times op-ed that savaged Donald Trump and his administration.

How crazy has it gotten?  Bookies around the world are giving odds on who the traitor might be.

Fox News:

Vice President Mike Pence – and "the field" – lead offshore bookmaking picks as the White House mole behind the anonymous bombshell New York Times op-ed blasting President Trump.

Pence was listed at 2-to-3 odds on the site MyBookie as the fifth column official who claims to be working behind the scenes to stop some of Trump's policies that they find wrongheaded.

The biggest favorite, at 1-3 odds, is "the field," someone not listed among the 18 administration officials listed by the Costa Rica-based operation.

At 2-to-3 odds, a winning bettor investing $1 would profit 66 cents.  At 1-to-3, a gambler wagering $1 would net 33 cents with a win.

Why Pence?  Desperate gamblers have latched on to the thinnest of reeds: the use of a single word in the op-ed that has also been used on occasion by the vice president.

HuffPo:

The unidentified author singles out the late Arizona Sen. John McCain as "a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue."

The word – which Merriam-Webster defines as either "a star that leads or guides" or a person who "serves as an inspiration, model, or guide" – isn't that commonly used.  But Pence apparently says it a lot, according to this mash-up posted on Twitter:

It is either fabricated or written by someone on the Left (not in the WH), or, perhaps, written by an Obama holdover in the administration.

One of the reasons to believe it is fabricated is because John Kelly has really clamped down on leaks and this is bigger than just a leak.

As an aside, I listened to NPR (briefly) a short while ago while driving to the grocery and all the talk was breathless discussion of the 25th Amendment and how the country is teetering on collapse because Trump is mentally ill.

Whoever wrote this so-called op-ed hates not only Trump and all the loyal members of the administration, he seems to hate the country.

This is the act of a genuine traitor.

As a last point, I wonder if this Times op-ed is somehow related to Bob Woodward's book. The timing is odd and it will no doubt boost the sales of Woodward's book.

Pence has been nothing but loyal to our President.

He is fraying out of the fray of the Russia-Mueller thing, so if the worst were to happen, another rock solid conservative would ascend to the Presidency, who would be in a position to continue Trump’s policies. Wise in my opinion.

Read the Opinion piece again. It easily could be written by an outsider with communication to the White House staff. The example they highlight is Russian Foreign policy. He definitely would be in constant communication with this staff at a minimum.

I re-read the piece and nothing convinces me he is not in day to day communication. Huntsmen’s own words. We set policy.

If you have occasion to visit us in Moscow, I will introduce you to hundreds of colleagues, who are the most highly trained in their field with years of experience working in Russia. Representatives of our foreign service, civil service, military and intelligence services have neither the time nor inclination to obsess over politics, though the issues of the day are felt by all. Their focus is on the work that needs to be done to stabilize the most dangerous relationship in the world, one that encompasses nuclear weapons, fighting terrorism, stopping bloodshed in Ukraine, and seeking a settlement of the seemingly intractable Syrian crisis. Their dedication to service to their country is above politics, and it inspires me to the core. It is my standard.

The so called “senior administration official” who supposedly authored the NYT OP/ED does not exist.

The fake news NYT had someone write the opinion piece and then decided it would have more credibility and generate more interest if they said a senior Trump official was the anonymous author.

It is fake news.

Abby Huntsman? She's one of my favorite faces I see on TV. Too bad about her feelings about our fantastic president.

The unidentified author singles out the late Arizona Sen. John McCain as "a lodestar for restoring honor to public life and our national dialogue."

So it could be whoever writes Pence's speeches.

Or a lawyer. The pretentious term “lodestar” is the name for the basis for calculation of reasonable attorneys fees in civil cases.

ABBY HUNTSMAN

Don’t waste your time. I’ll make it easy for you @glennbeck, not my dad. #nicetry.

@GLENBECK
Great theory on Anonymous. Spoke to a journalist on FBlive. He makes a compelling case it could be Jon Huntsman Jr. See the interview at THE BLAZE!

It has to be. Consider Scooter Libby/Richard Armitage. Any self-respecting offshore betting site would demand additional proof of anyone who was fingered.
