Elon Musk calls Thailand diver 'child rapist' in new baseless attack
The Guardian ^ | 9/5/2018 | Sam T Levin

Elon Musk has escalated his baseless attacks against a British diver, claiming without evidence that the man who helped rescue children from a cave in Thailand was a “child rapist” in an email to a reporter.

The embattled Tesla CEO faced widespread backlash in July when he first called the diver Vernon Unsworth a “pedo” in a tweet – an unfounded claim against a man who was part of the international team that freed 12 young footballers and their coach from the Tham Luang cave complex. Musk, who had unsuccessfully attempted to assist the rescue mission, eventually apologized to Unsworth.

Unsworth, who said he was considering legal action after the original insults on Twitter, is now moving forward with a lawsuit, his lawyer said in an email to the Guardian on Tuesday: “Elon Musk’s campaign of publishing vile and false accusations against Mr Unsworth is inexcusable. Musk hopes to be sued and he deserves to be sued. He will be.”

This seems to have started when the diver decided not to use Musk’s coffin sized capsule to ferry the boys out of the cave. Apparently Musk couldn’t take hearing someone say “no.”

Well, I think also it was when the experienced divers gave their opinion of Musk's idea, which was something to the effect that "that's the most stupid idea I've ever heard and if we try it we'll probably all get killed," which coincidentally was pretty much what I thought too.

If I recall correctly, Musk's idea was to inflate a sort of sleeve in the underwater cave, to be made of some sort of elastomer material strong enough to withstand the pressure of many feet of underwater depth, but flexible enough to conform to the rocks and crevasses of the tunnel without breaking.

Even a single point tear would have been catastrophic, causing rapid collapse of the sleeve and leaving everyone inside under a lot of water and wrapped in a plastic sleeve death trap from which there was no way they could extricate themselves.

It really was stupid, for anyone who has handled air-filled vessels underwater.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘I am NOT a child bride! Hero British diver’s FORTY-year-old girlfriend demolishes ‘laughable’ claims by billionaire Elon Musk that he ‘is a paedophile who married a 12-year-old’

And face it, a single Brit man moving to Thailand means one thing only.

Except the guy is a diver, and Thailand is a diver's paradise. A diver wanting to live in Thailand is like a surfer wanting to live in Hawaii.

I have no idea who this guy is, but assuming anyone who moves to Thailand is a pedo is idiotic. Thanks to Uncle Sam, I've visited Thailand many times. The natural beauty, the people, and the diving are all unforgettable, and many people move there for those things.

Why isn’t Elon Musk concerned about these children?

Here's the emails in question. Notice that they are supposed to be off the record:

I thought this was over weeks ago. FBN had Bob Nardeli(SP?) this am. He hinted that the industry thinks Musk is losing his $hit.

Daily Mail excerpt: **Mr Unsworth was hailed as a ‘magician’ after he, and two other British divers Rick Stanton and John Volanthe, managed to get the boys out of the cave when Thai authorities failed.**

From some of the comments on this thread - it appears there is a disdain for British men - even those who risk their lives to save a dozen young Thai children’s lives. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Interesting. Not sure what to think about this case. I think I share Musk’s general suspicions about single middle aged guys hanging out in Thailand. But such suspicions are way short of a basis for written (and actionable) accusations of the sort Musk made.

Hope Musk is on to something and not on something. Or on his way to collecting his own urine in a Las Vegas hotel suite.

Either way I think he has more productive things he can do.

Plenty of people moved to Thailand because it was very cheap and doesn’t have winter

My move to Thailand was for the convenience of the Air Force, but I did indeed enjoy two years of great weather.

It’s not something you throw out as a common insult twice publicly. When your company’s stock is in trouble. I’m thinkin’ maybe Elon knows more than we think.

Musk displays PTSD symptoms, this is an example of that. He should get some pro help before he winds up getting his face sued off, or winds up in prison where he'll wind up with more reasons to have PTSD.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

He could have “moved forward” with it after the first Musk comments.

Yes, but has Musk provided any evidence to support his accusation? How did this all start anyway? Does Musk have a personal grudge against this guy, or is Musk just crazier than an outhouse rat?

Re: “The entire thing is a Ponzi scheme.”

Tesla and Musk have been buried in bad news for the last year.

The stock is down 25% from its all time closing high, and the “short interest” is a very daunting 20%.

However, also in the past year, it has made a dozen runs at $360 with strong buying volume, which can only happen with institutional and professional buyers.

If I was still day trading (too old and risk averse now), I would definitely start buying around $270, but with tight sell stops.
