The Dow Jones Industrial Average was trading solidly lower early Tuesday, with shares of Nike Inc. NKE, +0.25% producing the stiffest headwind for the blue-chip benchmark. Nike's shares were down 2.6%, or $2.19, shaving about 15 points from the price-weighted Dow DJIA, -0.05% of which it is a component, after the sports-apparel giant unveiled a new 30th anniversary ad campaign that features Colin Kaepernick, the NFL quarterback who led player protests against racial injustice and police brutality during the national anthem. The move by Nike is being viewed as highly political and at odds with President Donald Trump's views. Most recently, the Dow was down nearly 54 points, or 0.2%, at 25,910. A $1 move in any one of the Dow's 30 components translates to 6.8-point swing. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index SPX, -0.17% declined by 0.2% at 2,896, while the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP, -0.23% was 0.2% lower at 8,092.

Way to go (bleep)wads.
The reason they did this was that it provides millions in free publicity. If you were an avid nike user, you won’t change. They are going for the moron audience, people who will buy anything if they see it on the telly with a good looking athlete wearing them. Since their base audience won’t change, they will reel in some extras at no cost. Lost me as a customer though, forever.
They chose to align themselves with an America-hating bastard. They are now the company of BLM and hate.
Nike stock today. Can't wait to see what it does tomorrow and in the near future.
I'll betcha Nike alienates more potential customers than gains new customers.
Watch. COLLOSSAL error in judgment by Nike and it will hurt them in their nylon-encrusted pocketbook.
Nike nuked itself.
Timber!!!!!
Look to see if any insiders dumped stock last week.
At the close 79.60-2.60 (-3.16%).
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. When a company disrespects more than 50% of its consumers, they are either very assured of themselves or very stupid.
I vote NIKE is stupid.
NIKE is headquartered in Beaverton Oregon (a suburb of LEFTIST Portland). As such all they hear is leftist blather from the community and then believe the whole world thinks like they do.
We will need to wait for 4th quarter numbers to see the impact.
It’s all about virtue signaling.
Profit is boring.
They are measuring their profit in accolades from the Hive.
I vote NIKE is stupid......
Me too they all sat at a big wig meeting(probably all white males and female) and decided what the American people were all about and they F’d up big time as it aint sneakers and ignorant football jocks
My e-mail to investor relations:
So Nike is seeing the immediate results of virtue signaling as a market strategy. Its all the rage in Corporate America. It used to be called Cutting Off Ones Nose to Spite Ones Face.
I hope the next shareholders meeting has pitchforks and torches, with shareholders demanding the heads of your executive board.
Nike chose wrong.
No they didn't -- not yet anyway based on stock trading today. NKE stock is up 0.34% in after-hours trading.
"Set back the entire Dow ..." Huh? The Dow closed almost dead even -- -0.05%.
Sure NKE's politicization will likely have negative impacts as time goes on. That's what happens when you tick off half the country. But one can not make that case based on the stock market results today.
Anyone who pays $200+ for tennis shoes is a moron.
I have not purchased ANY Nike product since the early 80’s.
I do admit I have a few Nike golf balls that I have found while trying to find a errant Titleist...
Getting rid of those balls via the dump.
Nuke Nike
I don’t have any NIKE shoes to burn. How would a 30 year old jockstrap do? Would smell the same, I think.
