There may finally be a place like home for an iconic pair of red slippers worn by Judy Garland in "The Wizard of Oz" that were stolen from a Minnesota museum 13 years ago.
The FBI said officials are expected to announce Tuesday in Minneapolis at 2 p.m. ET that the slippers, stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minn. in August 2005, have been recovered.
The ruby slippers were swiped during a heist in which someone broke through a window and broke into the small display case. The shoes were insured for $1 million.

Now if they could only recover the Lost Republic, I’d be happy.

Now that the crime of the century has been solved maybe the FBI can spend some time looking for 33,000 missing emails.

"Expedition Unknown" on the Discovery Channel showed an episode about this theft recently. It was kind of interesting until the host - Josh Gates - had to ruin it by comparing President Trump (not named) to the Wizard of Oz, man behind the curtain, preying on people's fears, blah blah blah - with a arrogant smirk on his face and the White House in the background. It was infuriating.
After a little research I learned Gates announced he would move to Canada if Trump was elected. Of course he hasn't.
The statute of limitations has run out on the burglary so no one will be prosecuted.

Yup. An item insured for a million dollars right out in the open with no security. Also, these slippers are of no good to anyone. You can’t sell them, show them or any such thing.

"Gotta give the insurance money back..."
Is that true? Or is there a statute of limitations or other clause in the policy?
Example: your car is stolen, and you collect, say, $18,000 and go out and buy a replacement.
Two years later your vehicle is recovered.
Do you really have to then repay the insurance money?

Just read that the insurance company is the owner....they were on loan to the museaum. The person who loaned them was paid $800,000. He originally paid $2,000 for them.
