CORPORATE SUICIDE WATCH, NIKE EDITION
Powerline ^ | September 3,2018 | JOHN HINDERAKER

Posted on 09/03/2018 6:56:30 PM PDT by Hojczyk

Nike has chosen the star of its 30th anniversary #JustDoIt advertising campaign: Colin Kaepernick. At first glance, it seems weird for an athletic shoe company to select as its corporate icon someone who is no longer an athlete, and was never a star. At second glance, it gets weirder:

Nike apparently thinks Kaepernick has sacrificed everything, which tells you something about 21st century corporate America. Kaepernich is a multimillionaire whose “sacrifice” consisted of kneeling during the National Anthem, wearing socks depicting police officers as pigs, and generally denouncing his country. Which has led to a second career as a leftist spokesman. That is not exactly a contender in the annals of Greatest Sacrifice Ever.

Further, Nike’s tag line, “Believe in something,” naturally raises the question: Does it matter what you believe in? Any normal person would say that it does. After all, the worst monsters in human history–Mao, Stalin, Lenin, Nero, Hitler, Amin, bin Laden, Castro–all believed in something. It was just the wrong thing.

ClayTravis This is the dumbest move @nike has ever made in the history of its brand.

I interviewed Travis a week or two ago on the Laura Ingraham radio show, talking about his new book Republicans Buy Sneakers Too: How the Left Is Ruining Sports With Politics. Clay’s book, written by the only person to be banned by both ESPN and CNN, is a useful commentary on the kind of corporate insanity that afflicts companies like Nike.

Not much profit to be made from looted sneakers or by marketing to the poorest demographic.

I don’t know what the political persuasion of New Balance is, but I bought a pair of their walking shoes last year and my feet have never felt better. Just a fact.

Skilletface Kaepernick with his Brillo explosion Afro pushing Nike while warning you are all racists if you don’t buy Nike’s.

Yeah, that’ll sell.

I guess Osama Bin Laden is next in their ad campaign. He was definitely a true believer.

I’m having trouble with the Kapernick “sacrifice.” It seemed more like a self-serving PR stunt which has paid off nicely.

Nike didn’t think this through.

Real sports fans know Kapernick was offered and turned down a contract with SF. It just wasn’t enough for his oversized ego.

Jack Hammer, for one, will never again buy a Nike product. Period.

Too bad I never buy Nike products so I can’t stop buying them.
On second thought, I may have bought Nike golf balls on occasion in the past. I’ll make sure that never happens again.

Just trashed my Nikes!

May I recommend New Balance. They fit great and last a long time without coming apart.

I usually downgrade an existing pair for yard and garage work when I get a new pair. I've been using the same two pair for about 7 years now.

Well then you don’t count to them. It’s only people that currently buy their products or intend to that can hurt them.
