Wow. I’ve read that for 35 years maybe. Haven’t in the last few years but how I loved it in its hay day. Nat Hentoff, a conservative James Wolcott before he became a quisling, Andrew Sarris, Eric Asimov, even the awful Michael Musto...I even remember Stanley Crouch’s jazz reviews and Jill Johnston - one of the first out lezbos. I went to college in Buffalo (surprise, I know). A lot of New Yorkers went there at the time. Occaisionally, someone would have a copy of the Village Voice. It was like listening in on a private conversation. I never know what the HELL they were talking about. But one thing for sure, they were pissed.
