WASHINGTON—High-stakes trade negotiations between Canada and the U.S. were dramatically upended on Friday morning by inflammatory secret remarks from President Donald Trump, after the remarks were obtained by the Toronto Star.
In remarks Trump wanted to be “off the record,” Trump told Bloomberg News reporters on Thursday, according to a source, that he is not making any compromises at all in the talks with Canada — but that he cannot say this publicly because “it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal.” In a remark he did not want published, U.S. President Donald Trump said that a possible NAFTA deal with Canada would be “totally on our terms,” according to a source.
“Here’s the problem. If I say no — the answer’s no. If I say no, then you’re going to put that, and it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal ... I can’t kill these people,” he said of the Canadian government.
In another remark he did not want published, Trump said, according to the source, that the possible deal with Canada would be “totally on our terms.” He suggested he was scaring the Canadians into submission by repeatedly threatening to impose tariffs.
“Off the record, Canada’s working their ass off. And every time we have a problem with a point, I just put up a picture of a Chevrolet Impala,” Trump said, according to the source. The Impala is produced at the General Motors plant in Oshawa, Ontario.
Trump made the remarks in an Oval Office interview with Bloomberg. He deemed them off the record, and Bloomberg accepted his request not to reveal them.

The MSM is just trying to monkey up the negotiations...no worries.
Canada has a very short window to capitulate. Our deal with Mexico is stand alone and will be signed quickly because they are changing to a communist president. I heard that we can push it through tomorrow art noon. I heard that arrogant woman trying to look tough for Canada. Trump will crush her into tears very soon. We really don’t care if we trade with Canada. I don’t think they have anything we need. We sure as hell don’t need their lousy health care.
President Trump has a basic rule that I love. He does not believe in being less than 50% of anything! Bilateral deals can be negotiated to everyone’s satisfaction, but when you are only one-third of a deal, you risk being outnumbered if the other two countries gang up on you. That is why he does not want another NAFTA. He wants one on one deal with Mexico which he has achieved, and if possible a one on one deal with Canada. If Canada continues its snotty game, he will not deal.
Look at all the things Trump has pulled out of where the USA was the moneybags paying the bills, but outnumbered in power. We are out of the TPP, the Paris Accords, the UN Human Rights, the Iran deal and those are just for starters. America’s SOVEREIGNTY is President Trump’s Number ONE concern.

If anything I would believe that President Trump wanted this information leaked by the press. Time to stop pussyfooting with Canada on the trade issue, is his point.
Canada should get real and realize they are our colony and ask for full statehood. They could then give up bowing to the in-bred queen that ruined their empire.

Indeed that is true. It’s bad enough to lie about Trump as an individual. But, to start crap between two countries is pretty bad. The MSM keeps stooping lower and lower.

I agree. Ironically, during the NAFTA debates over the last 20 years, and looking at the EU trade agreements, I came to the conclusion that generic trade agreements are inherently inefficient and unjust. Each country should optimize its own distinctive competence. Generic agreements put a country at a disadvantage.
