(Reuters) - U.S. stocks posted strong gains on Monday, with the benchmark S&P 500 and the Nasdaq hitting all-time highs, as news that the United States and Mexico were closing in on a trade deal added to optimism about the economy.
A Mexican source familiar with the talks told Reuters its almost certain that there will be an announcement about the North American Free Trade Agreement later in the day and U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted, a big deal looking good with Mexico!
Also helping sentiment was Washington pressing the European Union to speed up trade negotiations.
Nine of the 11 major S&P 500 sectors were higher. The top gainer was the materials sector .SPLRCM with a 1.38 percent increase, as prices of metals and gold rose. The trade-sensitive industrials sector .SPLRCI was up about 0.82 percent.

Is this what winning feels like :) 401K keeps going up :)
To quote Marvin in the 1987 movie Wall street (As BST was soaring higher):
“I do love it so!”
Is is NAFTA? Or McStain’s Death
To quote Lou Mannheim: “Kid, you’re on a roll. Enjoy it while it lasts, ‘cause it never does.”
I hope somewhere in the new agreement is a clause whereby money is raised from Mexican citizens to pay for our new wall. Congress be damned! Wouldn’t that be great?
Ha! Good question...
This is a masterful bit of negotiating on the part of the Trump administration. I would have thought for sure that the U.S. would negotiate a successful agreement with Canada before Mexico, but in a multilateral trade negotiation it’s always best to deal with the more challenging trading partner first.
Trump is waiting for Miss Trudeau to be out of office.
Canada was the more challenging of the two. They have only been interested in virtue signalling so far.
Televising the call during the press conference with the Mexican President is brilliant. Libs heads are exploding.
Also in the deal is a raise for mexican workers...
The Donald, true global leader......
I know; that’s always in the back of my mind...
His plan is so simple that it’s laughable when you think of the immaturity of all our previous presidents of the last 50 years.
Trump is going to negotiate with each individual state and the EU. One by one he’ll fair trade agreements.
These new partnerships will benefit both sides.
Left in the cold will be China and anyone else.
Obvious that the Chinese and N Koreans and even Iran are sitting back expecting the democrats to take over the House and then imperil Trump’s ability to negotiate, but it doesn’t matter. Our economy is strong.
Trump should basically say every chance he can that China and NK and the rest expect a poor GOP turnout.
It will get more people out to vote.
And this will of course be the lead story on CNN tonight......

Have Trudeaus eyebrows made a move, over this news, yet??
