John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizonas senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

Hah! I feel your pain. I’m watching FOX right now and feel like puking.
My mourning is for the glioblastoma who found itself attached to McCain.
Laz, you’re killing me! I almost peed myself after reading that! I just got back from the bathroom.
A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.
For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.

Reflection for us All,,,
Thanks.
While I will prayer for his Soul, and sympathize for his family in their loss. Good Riddance. He was a disgrace to this nation.
May his funeral be soon.
I notice the Gutfeld show was hi-jacked. I turned to One America News earlier, They announced the death, his 60 years service, Navy Service, Vietnam, POW and whistled right into Soybean news somewhere else. Two and a half minutes total. I love that channel, only problem is the Millennial announcers.
NOT ONE NEWS SOURCE IS TALKING ABOUT THE DEATH OF THIS TUMOR! It has done so much for us; how sad it is that it passed tonight. I advise President Trump to order flags to half mast, in recognition of the selfless service this glioblastoma has given America.
So, which dirty rotten bastard is next? Old Bushie? I haven’t been to Deadpool.com lately. Old Jimmuh Carter isn’t a bad guy, but my money is on him to be called home next.
She's the only one of his family that I have any sympathy for. A mother should never outlive her children.
It's just not smart--each person's fate is our destiny.
The ancient Sophocles had this figured out. Odysseus refused to dishonor the body of Ajax--"In life he was my enemy. I did hate him, when it was honorable for me to hate . . . [but] I too shall come to that necessity."
ROTFLMAO!
Yeah, I know. But death is such a serious final thing... we all will pass through... He did a lot in his life to make it miserable for others. The one he had to make it right with was the Gate Keeper to get through those gates... I hope he did... facing it, makes one think hard.
Thanks for saying that. I second your motion.
And with McCain’s passing I will finally retire my tag line that I have used for the last few years:
“Just imagine an America where Sen. John McCain had instead “failed to eject” over North Vietnam.”
A man died with whom we largely disagreed, particularly recently. He served his country and suffered torture. I hope my fellow FReepers will show some class and respect here.
Save the bad stuff for Bill and Hillary. And David Brock. Schumer, of course. And Mad Maxine.
Now is not the time for snark, and I had many issues with him. RIP Senator
You forgot Obama.
