Portland, Oregon, has gradually become the laughingstock of the country. The far left began moving there in droves a few years ago, taking over the city and transforming it to their liking. Taxes and regulations increased. Many of the changes involved implementing more aggressive environmental laws, some that seemed based on junk science. Money was directed into public transit instead of relieving motor vehicle traffic congestion, leading to the fifth-worst traffic in the nation. The TV comedy Portlandia emerged, making fun of the citys nuttiest aspects.
The far left in Portland became obsessed with protesting white supremacy through violence. They claim that Portland is full of white supremacists who must be stopped but that only makes the left look bad, since Portland is now predominantly comprised of the left. The history of racism that once plagued the state has mostly dissipated, as generations have died out and laws have been rescinded. Notably, all the lefties moving there arent making the city more diverse. It is one of the whitest big cities in the U.S., at almost 78 percent. Only 2.2 percent of the population is black.

From what I have seen of the Portland police regarding Antifa and the others, they don’t put up with it.
Apparently the left likes to “burn” their own neighborhood, be they black or white.
They would not want to try their antics in Louisville. Too many of us carry in our cars, and if we are in fear of serious physical harm (rioters would tend to do that) we have a right to use deadly force - and will.
We lived in Portland in the late 80’s, to mid 90’s....it was a great place then. Now (we’re an hour away now)...we avoid it.
white supremacy = white envy
I used to say, those who thought Berkeley was too conservative, moved to Portland.
Portland is popular for two reasons.
Drugs...
and if you can’t get layed in Portland, you probably are not breathing.
If Freepers can corroborate that, I might check out the show after all.
It may make fun of leftism the way “All in the Family” did back in the 70s, that is, unintentionally.
I’ve never seen it, so I honestly don’t know, I’m just conjecturing.
LOL! I was too skerred to watch it. But, maybe I’ll have a look someday. I thought it might be a celebration of the portland insanity. Knowing the media I’m pretty skeptical.
hey, they have good Goodwills there....and then there's the "bins"....
I’ve watched a few Portlandia’s....its similar to the humor in “best in show”....quietly humorous...
I hate Portland. Worse than Seattle in many ways.
The first few seasons did make fun of Portland, however once Netflix renewed the series, it became unwatchable. This is a pattern with shows ‘revived’ by Netflix, such as Gilmore Girls and Longmire. They ruin the show, usually after the show has it’s series ending episode.
Never had a reason to visit and it doesn’t look like I see one on the horizon either.
Its funny and to my mind, it mocks the Left. Maybe Im wrong, maybe its some sort of virtue signaling by the Left. Anyway, the Feminist Bookstore skits are hilarious.
Portlandia was pretty good in the early seasons but I can’t speak to the Netflix version. It did a fine job of mocking the leftists in a humorous way.
Heres a sample.

The son that walked into the store...he looks just like Flounder from Animal House.
“bins?”
