If Freepers can corroborate that, I might check out the show after all.
It may make fun of leftism the way “All in the Family” did back in the 70s, that is, unintentionally.
I’ve never seen it, so I honestly don’t know, I’m just conjecturing.
LOL! I was too skerred to watch it. But, maybe I’ll have a look someday. I thought it might be a celebration of the portland insanity. Knowing the media I’m pretty skeptical.
I’ve watched a few Portlandia’s....its similar to the humor in “best in show”....quietly humorous...
The first few seasons did make fun of Portland, however once Netflix renewed the series, it became unwatchable. This is a pattern with shows ‘revived’ by Netflix, such as Gilmore Girls and Longmire. They ruin the show, usually after the show has it’s series ending episode.
Its funny and to my mind, it mocks the Left. Maybe Im wrong, maybe its some sort of virtue signaling by the Left. Anyway, the Feminist Bookstore skits are hilarious.
Portlandia was pretty good in the early seasons but I can’t speak to the Netflix version. It did a fine job of mocking the leftists in a humorous way.
Heres a sample.

until its last two seasons when all the good writers quit or were fired and stars Cary Brownstein and Fred Armisen took over writing duties, this was THE funniest show on TV. There are many scenes and lines that are just howlers. This show indeed mercilessly mocks the insanity of the left, but in a completely non-political way. I highly recommend it except for the last two seasons, which are simply stupid rather than being funny ...
My take on Portlandia is that it is an accurate parody and it does make fun and is funny to me. Maybe it is funny to me because I have lived up there.
It’s Friday and ‘m tired. I’ll take on the task and let you know.
>>Very good article. Also, the TV show “Portlandia” is mentioned. I have that available to stream on my Netflix but never bothered because I figured it would be a celebration of leftism. Yet the article states that the show makes fun of leftism.
By all means watch it, it’s a hoot. Subtle digs at hipster culture, radical feminism and delusional thinking in general. The show did numerous segments filmed on location at a radical feminist book store who finally sussed that they were being mocked and kicked the crew and actors out of the store, which soon after went bankrupt and closed its doors.
Portlandia is actually funny. It is the antidote to the left wing right bashing SNL poison.
I was surprised at the depth of the fun pokes at the 33rd degree liberals portrayed. I think like masons, 33 degrees is the highest.
My wife was put off and I may never watch it again.
