Socialism is 'mainstream,' not a 'tainted' ideology: Bernie Sanders

During an interview on “The Late Show,” Tuesday, Senator Bernie Sanders declared socialist ideas to be mainstream, after host Stephen Colbert suggested it’s hurting Democrats at the ballot box.

Mr. Colbert pointed out that most of the candidates Mr. Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez campaigned for lost their primaries.

“Why do you need to call yourself socialists? Because that’s freighted with so much negativity in the United States,” the late-night comedian asked. “Maybe there’s a little taint to socialism that turns people off?”

Mr. Sanders pushed back on Mr. Colbert’s argument, saying that capitalism is out of control in America and the people are “sick and tired” of it. “The ideas that we have been talking about, almost without exception Stephen, are now ideas that are mainstream ideas that are supported by the vast majority of American people,” the Vermont independent said.

I understood it, but I thought in the America we lived in it was an artifact and would never really be needed. Now I look at my rifle and wonder what the future may hold. This topic was covered in Hannity last night. He had some young reporter there using Norway as her model and they agreed that capitalism was propping up socialist benefits. So essentially socialism was successful in Norway not because of it’s positive aspects but in spite of them.
