Richard Russell, ‘Rich’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know (Stole plane at SeaTac)

Richard Russell, who dreamed of being in the military and once ran a bakery with his wife, was identified as the suicidal airport mechanic who stole an airplane from Sea-Tac International Airport and took it on a dramatic unauthorized flight, where it was chased by fighter planes as he attempted “stunts” in the air before the plane crashed.

The man known as “Rich” in air traffic control audio and dubbed the “skyking” on Twitter broke hearts on social media as people followed the unauthorized flight because it came to a fatal end. The incident led to a dramatic and tragic night on August 10, 2018, as aircraft were grounded at Sea-Tac while fighter jets followed the man and air traffic controllers tried unsuccessfully to help him land the aircraft.

On social media, Richard Russell used the name “Beebo Russell.” Although authorities have not released his name, The Seattle Times identified the man as Richard Russell.

“Rich Russell’s Wife Described Him as the Man Who Always Kept Her Laughing”

Yeah, that flight and crash scene was hilarious.

Prayers to his family. Looking at his FB page, he was a conservative.

“And just how the HELL do you steal an airplane from an international airport?????”

Obviously some fool left the keys in the ignition!

"I only hope that a “real pilot” has be onboard a plane before any passengers are allowed on board."

They do. Both pilots and stewardesses have many tasks to complete before passengers board. Anyone who has cooled their heels waiting for a flight has seen the crew board WELL before passengers are called.

Yeah. He never mentioned his wife specifically. It was all about his final experience. Very odd for a person married 7 years. Curious.

Meaning the mainstreams are gonna have a field day with this.

Lotsa material to cast conservative, white Christian American men as mental cases, in need of “help.”

“Anyone who has cooled their heels waiting for a flight has seen the crew board WELL before passengers are called.”

Agreed, as one who wandered the world during my working life, I’ve done my share of “heel cooling.” But my concern is that this is a regional carrier who may not be so rigorous. Years ago, while attending San Jose State ( Aviation Management Major), my son was “night manager” for Reno Air Express. He told me that the maintenance of their A/C was borderline criminal ( flying with cracked struts was one example), and that the pilots were low time kids being paid hourly. Reno Air Express was owned by a company in Indianapolis that ran “ branded commuter service” for a number of major airlines all over the country. One night, he received a call from the GM in Indianapolis telling him that ALL his calls from any of their other “airlines” were being forwarded to my son because the GM was on his way to the hospital to see the CEO who was there for some malady or another. Then and there, I promised myself I would never fly a regional commuter again.

I had an unopened box of cream of wheat in my luggage. TSA felt they needed to open the box, then threw it back in the suitcase. Amazing mess it made!

The PERP had zero consideration for anyone else.

THAT will get no argument from me. Suicides like this, where death is a choice, and not just a manner of time(like cancer, etc.) is an extremely selfish act.

Excluding mental illness, for a young, relatively healthy to choice death rather than face the disappointments that everyone has or will encounter is terrible. He has left a a hole in the lives of his family and loved ones to deal with.

Yep, very selfish and self centered. The definition of an "snowflake"

Dunno how one steals an airplane.... Did the owner leave the keys in the ignition? How does one taxi then take off without official notification. Lots of questions here...

The night of this crash I was at home, but the night before I’d been at my office until almost midnight. My office is right by Ketron, mile, half mile??

To think someone can just run off with a plane like that after all that has happened the last 17 yrs?? I can’t even wear my shoes in the airport...

Clearly, we still have problems with security, and some clever evil genius will kill us by the thousands and thousands, perhaps the millions because the powers that be are GUTLESS.

However, the vast majority of people don’t take it anywhere near this level when they break.

This is the result of the "everyone's special" clashing with the "everyone desires" are paramount.

Back in the day, suicides happened most often in the privacy of one's own home. Now, it has to have an audience and be 'spectacular".

Call it "Suicide of the Snowflake"

Agreed.

Our lives are just moments away from being snuffed out by either a careless person inattention or the murderous intent of a madman with a mission.

I anticipate waking one morning(Like 9/11) and hearing the news that an sports event(or open air concert like Los Vegas) and a drone equipped with either chemicals or biologics will attack and make 9/11 look like a picnic.

Even if one wishes to live in a Security State(see Venezuela) surrendering our liberties will not guarantee our safety.(see Venezuela)

We can’t be protected from all crazy people, but I’m worried that political correctness exposes us to unnecessary risk. For fear of “racism”, the wolves are allowed to frolic..

I am no pilot, but the dives he was in and rolled out of seemed a little above the “Flight Simulator” grade of flying.

Can a pilot give us a sense of that?

This whole thing sounds fishy.

My guess is that “there was not enough” to perform tests on.

That might be seen by some as “convenient.”

Did he ever refuse to make a cake for a LBGT couple and, most importantly, did he vote for Trump???
