Very low unemployment is part of this mix. A whole lot of people need to get to work nowadays. It wasn’t like that for the previous 8 years.
My commute (not NYC) has been much worse lately. Lots of cars on the road.
Couldnt happen to a nicer bunch of socialists.
I wasn’t going within 200 miles of NYC, but good to know another reason to avoid it.
Working remote is the best job ever, no delays between waking up and signing on.
And the Democratic Party.
NYC, where going 19 miles takes 7 hours.
I worked at home for a stretch and never really liked it. I like to have a commute separating me from work and my home life. Maybe I'm just crazy but I take Metro North to NYC from Westport, CT and I love it. It's a 2-hour commute each way but I get so much reading done on the train. I've almost doubled the amount of books that I read in a given month.
Most nights it would be an hour or so between seeing another car, while on the freeway.
Some nights I saw more moose than cars.
New Jersey Transit is cancelling up to 30 trains a day now. Conductors and engineers playing hooky.
If it’s bad today, wait until school starts.
Good luck then...
Yep, I’ve been working from home now going on 5 years. I love it.
For 12 years I commuted from North Central New Jersey to Kennedy Airport in NYC. There was a lot of different ways to drive that trip. I changed them as much as possible to keep my sanity. Then I started my own business alongside my employment with a airline. I was so glad to get a transfer to Miami just to get away from the crooks and mobs. It was a lot easier life I thought. Built a new life for myself and my wife and son. Yes NYC was were I was raised but its also the main place in the USA for crooked politicians. I think its in the DNA of the water there....
I live and work in NYC and my commute is a ten minute walk. That said, trying to meet friends in other neighborhoods has become a nightmare no matter what mode of transportation. Well, a motorcycle is still decent.
What I haven’t seen mentioned on any discussion of commuting difficulties is how ever since Bloomberg was mayor, the city has had a war on cars. Manhattan, then Brooklyn and now in Queens... they keep taking lanes away from cars and turning them into bike lanes.
Many two way streets are now one way. And cars which used to be parked against the curb are in one of the former lanes (and the bikes use the spot where the cars were parked). The significance is that now an exiting driver will open the door into traffic, halting everyone.
The other tactic to make driving difficult is turning any little triangle of road where two streets intersect at a narrow angle or a street wye’s off have been blocked off and turned into pedestrian malls that no one uses.
Oh and the last one that just got me good: The Brooklyn Queens Expressway starts/ends at the Grand Central Parkway. If you were to get onto the GCP right at the Triboro Bridge and wanted to hop onto the BQE, you used to be able to stay in the far right lane for maybe a half a mile and then you’re on the BQE. They took that lane away for who knows what reason. Now you have to merge onto one of the GCP lanes and then you have move back over right to get onto the BQE. Just clogs everything up. Same issue in other direction too. Madness.
I agree with you, unless otherwise necessary bring the work to the worker, not the worker to the task
Does Westport still have that lending library in the train station?
I used to do the reverse of what you do.
They do!
Most people are on their tablets and iPhones but you see a few still reading actual books.
