Cincinnati police officers used a Taser on an 11-year-old girl accused of stealing from a supermarket.

Most “kids” can outrun most adult males, and at an early age. Try chasing after a 6 y/o moving at a full sprint, or cornering and capturing a 4 y/o who doesn’t want to go to bed.
You tell him. Just because a teen wants to shoplift, why we should let them. Let them get away with it. Do not stop them. Thats being racist.
So you are claiming the police are lying and the girl did NOT run away ... and there were no witnesses to any of this? Those are the facts as reported. I wasn’t there and neither were you.
You seem bitter. Had a few run-in’s with the police, have you?
Why did Kroger call the police?
.
We do not know the circumstances. This may have been totally justified or totally unnecessary. We do not know.
Oddly tazing inflicts the minimal damage but incapacitates so the perp be it adult of non adult will submit to police orders. It is far better than a billy club upside ones head or 3 slugs to center mass.
The reason cops carry tazers is so they do not need to inflict real physical harm but still bring the perp under control.
The fact that cops carry tazers reduces the necessity of inflicting violent injury on a perp, so long as the perp is not a mortal threat. In a situation where a cop is in a struggle with a perp and does not have a tazer he is more inclined to use mortal force. More than one good cop has been killed when a perp got his weapon in a struggle.
I admire and support the good cops and they are the vast majority. Bad cops need to be prosecuted and they are few.
The vast majority of cops are good cops. This cop may be a good cop or a bad cop. We do not know the details.
ps
The good cops hate the bad cops.
“11 year olds arent opie taylor anymore”
LOL. Just got me thinking...what if Barney had been given a taser instead of one bullet? With all the rebirths of old sitcoms, Barney with a taser is reason enough to rework The Andy Griffith Show.
You make a lot of assumptions for someone whomwasmt there and doesn’t have all the facts.
You could dial the ‘tude down a notch or two.
What you need to understand is that tasing is the safest most effective way to maintain order in a violent situation. What would you have the cop to do? Physically restrain her? Only if they used excessive force could they hope to somehow subdue and restrain a wild feral 11-year-old.
You know this. I have to believe youre not stupid. So why are you continuing this anti cop agenda?
The very fact that Kroger notified the police tells me that something else was going on besides mere shoplifting.
.
How tall is the girl and how much does she weigh?
Oh please. I’ve taught hundreds of 11 year olds. Even the biggest ones are no way any threat to you.
Its an ignorant kid shoplifting some snacks at a food store that needs a good talking to. No need for any violence or risk of injury/death
Excellent post.
One article said that she was taken to a hospital and then handed over to a "guardian", a different one said "parent"...so who knows? Also not a one of them mentioned race!
All said that it is LEGAL to use a taser on anyone over the age of 7 and under the age of 70!
The kid would NOT stop, trued to get away, and then fought with one or more of the cops and is charged with theft and OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE!
Your analysis is poor. LEO?
The girl, who was taken to a hospital and released to a guardian, was charged with theft and obstruction of justice.
Tasers can be used on people who are 7 and older, according to department guidelines, but Police Chief Eliot Isaac has launched an investigation.
Are you suggesting she should have just been allowed to run away? I think not. Maybe, just maybe, if she learns the lesson about NO STEALING early in life it will keep her from being really stupid later.
There used to be a saying about "spare the rod; spoil the child". Kids need discipline. Without it they go on to be troublemakers and find themselves on the wrong end of the law which means jail or prison. I do get your point about wanting to know more but we don't have that luxury so going by what little we know; I think the cop did the right thing. They also say she was released to a "Guardian"; not a parent so I'm guess she's in the system as a foster kid or something similar. If so she needs help; not coddling. Empathy; not spoiling. Kids are really good at manipulating adults at that age. I hope she does get the guidance and help she needs to fly straight an narrow in the future.
1) Did she do something’s no illegal? Yes
2) Did she try to get away with it? Yes
3) Did she resist and ignore a law. Enforcement officer command to stop? Yes
Did she suffer the consequences? Yes
If she was a starving waif, the store I guarantee you would have fed her. She’s a thief and resisted arrest. She learned a lesson and is alive. Enlist in law enforcement and makeup your own rules on right and wrong and the use of force. Until that time, you can suck on the cops boots.
Newbie. What you need to understand is this anti-cop crap is not welcome here at Free Republic . You better wise up.
The cop was most likely in a no win situation. I don't know though, I was not there.
You have no idea WHAT she was stealing, so don't assume what it was!
You can't "talk to" a kid who is running away, nor one who is hitting/punching, whatever else she was doing to the cop/s!
You don't have any kids do you.
