Republican strategist Karl Rove on Monday said President Trump should lower expectations ahead of Novembers midterm elections, not predict a "red wave" of GOP victories.
Rove, appearing on Fox News Americas Newsroom, pointed out that the party that holds the White House historically has lost seats in a midterm election.
In all likelihood, Republicans are going to lose seats in the House, theyre going to lose governorships, theyre going to lose state legislative seats, Rove said. I think the president would be well-advised to say we face an uphill fight but he feels good about it, rather than set the expectation that somehow or another the Republicans are going to gain across the board with a red wave.
Roves comments came a day after Trump predicted on Twitter that there might be a Red Wave in November.
Trump used the same phrase during a rally Saturday in Ohio, where he was campaigning for Republican Troy Balderson, who faces a special House election against Democrat Danny OConnor on Tuesday.
If the Democrats get in, theyre going to raise your taxes. Youre going to have crime all over the place. Youre going to have people all over the border, Trump said. So why would that be a blue wave? I think it could be a red wave.
A RealClearPolitics average of major congressional polls shows that Democrats hold about a 7-point lead over Republicans.
Most political handicappers give Democrats a good chance of taking back the House, though Republicans are well-positioned to retain their Senate majority given a 2018 map that has Democrats defending 10 seats in states won by Trump.
Rove, former President George W. Bush's political strategist, saw his old boss pickup House seats in 2002 a remarkable achievement that came just more than a year after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Trump plays for 100%. That’s why he’s PDJT. His method of mitigating loss is to try and win the whole shebang.
I never thought that I'd get to post this again.
This man is the personification of “Lowered Expectations.”
This coming from the guy who said Trump would never be elected.
Whew, he sure did. His usefulness, even in a good year, came to an end on the first Wednesday of November.
Isn’t this the same Karl Rove who talked about how he was all for Reagan back in 1980, and then it was discovered that he had actually been for GHWB instead?
Three months from tomorrow either Rove or the President is going to look very foolish.
Turd Blossom has wilted.
I am imagining the demon spawn if Rove and Perino hooked up. It’s not pretty.
This is the same guy who night after night said that Trump had a high floor, low ceiling, that he would lose in the early primaries and drop out. Later he changed that to, he’ll never win the nomination. Then he changed it to he’ll never win the general election. So, wrong way Karl is predicting losing the house, I’d say that is a good indication that the gop holds the house, and gains seats in the senate.
My prediction is that black and Hispanic turnout will be lower than expected, and fewer whites will vote democrat now that the democrat party has officially become the anti-American, and anti-white party.
That actually encourages me. When the last time that GOPe puke Rove was right about anything?
“Gloom, despair, and agony on me...” That’s the Karl Rove way.
RYMB - Rove You Miserable Butt.
If you haven't read it it is excellent.
Yup, thats my worry too. But think most Trump supporters (me included) would literally crawl over broken glass to vote in the 2018 midterms.
Amend. Heres the genius who was the architect of the 2000 loss of the popular vote. Hes the one who advised Bush not to sully the dignity of the office by responding to 5 years of getting his brains bashed in by the enemy press on the war, Katrina, etc. McCain was going to be a tough sell anyway, what with being such an agile and all, but Roves ineptness is what sealed the deal for us to get Obama. The other side are bare knuckled dirty fighters, and its good to have someone now who fights. No thanks to Rove
Rove, you magnificent blowhard.
