I got my drivers license renewal notice from the DMV the other day. This time, I was informed, Id have to renew in person, although I could make the process easier by completing my application online. When I tried, however, I got an error message. I could not submit an online application if I wanted a license that was also a Real ID.

My license used to divide me between documented and undocumented. Now I have to go get a new one that divides me because they gave all the illegals a driver’s license.
It is much harder for women, tho, than men. I have to find every piece of marriage & divorce papers I can because my name changed 2 times. I changed it back both times to my maiden name, but I am NOT sure where all those records are. My Nevada license doesnt expire until a couple more years, but by 2020, we all have to have such ID to fly. I CAN get a passport which will cover me to fly, and I dont know that will happen when my current license expires.

Make sure you keep your name up to date with the Social Security Administration.
The author seems to think this is a bad thing.
Will ICE or conservative groups be allowed access to voter roles (political parties can now) and lists of “un-real” licensees?
This could be great fun to watch.
I thought it was easier to get a passport than to get my Real ID drier’s license. It lasts longer, too!
The lady at the DMV was upset because my utility bill didn’t include XXXXX XXXXX II. I pointed out I hadn’t used “Second” in the 45 years since my Dad had died. But my birth certificate had II and my utility bill did not and it gave her the vapors. She had to call a supervisor to approve the irregularity!
That is “driver’s license”, not “driers license”. Long day.
Sounds good to the overwhelming majority of AMERICAN CITIZENS.
This mandate has been around for more than a decade. Many states already comply....those who are slow have a large illegal problem....eg California
Just how I feel. If they weren’t
here cheating the system, we wouldn’t
need this Real ID crap. Been driving
since I was 15, now 63, all in one
state). That should be record enough.
I’m a little confused. What is it about being here illegally do these people not get?
Do they understand the difference between legal and illegal? Do they understand the difference between American citizen and foreign invaders? Real compassion would be helping the illegals return home so they can Make Their Own Country Great one day.
Oh; and fer cryin’ out loud - fix the damn anchor baby loophole so at least one parent must be an American citizen for a plopped out baby is one.
Ran into the same situation when I renewed my license. After getting the document run around due to previous marriages I finally wound up with a regular license.
They insisted the name on my marriage license had to match my birth name. Wouldn’t happen after prior marriages. Totally po’d when I left the office
Finally, I am in the process of renewing an old passport so it can be used for a real ID license.
Airlines would not cooperate with your first option, so my guess is the other one. They'll allow if not encourage a flourishing black market in 'Real IDs'.
A legal citizen carping how it might be inconvenient for illegal invaders to obtain ID that has a high rate of confidence that the bearer is a citizen....
It is a pain in the butt, but I fully support reasoning. In FL, I also got a “V” for veteran as part of the real ID license.
I Went to the DMV yesterday to change the title on a car. Closest appointment I could get took a month but I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. I was shocked. It was standing room only inside and people were in chairs outside on the sidewalk. They have speakers outside now to announce when your number is called. I have to make another appointment to renew my license before my birthday in September. I got a notice that I could just fill out the paperwork and they’d renew my license but I need a Real ID since I fly occasionally. Hope the paperwork I received saves me from doing the written test again.
Oh, I forgot to mention.....everyone there waiting in the chairs and outside was either Middle Eastern, Mexican, or South American.
I seem to recall, several years ago, that a proposed universal ID card for all Americans was STRONGLY rejected on the grounds that we are free and having a mandatory ID was anathema to American citizens.
Guess that objection no longer applies, huh? Instead of a card for everyone, now we limit the intrusion to drivers licenses?
It is sad weve come to this point, but the separation between citizen and non-citizen is getting pretty murky and needs to be clarified. I guess this Read ID is a solution, of sorts. But Im not sure on this one.
New York offers three types of documents
I just use my passport.
And I hope to God security types in the other 49 realize that NYS licenses aren't all Real ID.
And the idiot authors think there is some reason why we should NOT be distinguished between the “undocumented” and the “documented” - meaning illegal and legal?????
The answer is to send the illegals home.
Just think of all that infrastructure and new schools, etc., we won’t have to build. All the entitlement programs we’ll be able to cut in half almost instantly. The end to worries about automation putting too many low-skill workers out of a job.
While we’re at it, our student test scores will shoot up dramatically. Our incredibly expensive Spanish and other language accommodations will be cut dramatically. We’ll of course have much less crime. We will share more of a common culture again. We will be able to take back the small cities that have been more or less gutted out by illegals and make them appealing places to live again. And on and on. Sure, our GDP will drop some, as we have fewer consumers within the country. But we can adjust to that.
