I got my drivers license renewal notice from the DMV the other day. This time, I was informed, Id have to renew in person, although I could make the process easier by completing my application online. When I tried, however, I got an error message. I could not submit an online application if I wanted a license that was also a Real ID.

Equally troubling is the further development of what we might call a two-tier America, based on immigration status and economic opportunity.
As an American citizen I have certain rights an privileges that a illegal alien does not. Don't like the American system don't sneak into our country.

Equally troubling is the further development of what we might call a two-tier America, based on immigration status and economic opportunity.Doesn't trouble me one bit when the lower tier is illegal immigrants and they are denied any kind of legal status. Typical conflation of illegal versus legal immigration as well.

Illegal aliens are not undocumented, they are fraudulently documented foreigners.

The author can blame Muslims.
Every time he passes through a TSA search he can blame Muslims.
All the increased security is because of Muslims.

This is all part of The Patriot Act, and it is nationwide....not just California.
IF you don’t want the Real ID, I don’t know if you can get a regular style driver’s license.
Keeping in mind that California & Nevada (where I live) are giving driver’s licenses to illegal invaders, I don’t mind having the real ID.
It is much harder for women, tho, than men. I have to find every piece of marriage & divorce papers I can because my name changed 2 times. I changed it back both times to my maiden name, but I am NOT sure where all those records are. My Nevada license doesn’t expire until a couple more years, but by 2020, we all have to have such ID to fly. I CAN get a passport which will cover me to fly, and I don’t know that will happen when my current license expires.

Always a false premise that is sine qua non to the story. "Troubling?" "Troubling" to whom? Only illegals and their supporters, not to law abiding citizens.

I do agree that the two-tier setup is bad for America.
Kick the illegals out, and have one tier. Citizens and legal immigrants.

I didn't know this was coming. I can't believe CA isn't trying to figure out how to prevent this and make itself a "Anti-Real ID" Sanctuary state or figuring out a way for illegal aliens to get the Real ID.

Just got mine in Massachusetts.I got the enhanced one...had to appear in person with passport, among other documents,in hand. But here there are two options...the one I got (requiring proof of legal residence) and one that basically only requires your word of honor.
There can be no doubt that the latter will be all you'll need to vote, collect welfare, etc here.

Boo Hoo!!!!
If California and the other Democrat run States had not messed up the system, we would not have to resort to these measures.
Excuses are over. Only Citizens of the United States of America can vote or travel without showing proof of their country of origin.
To: artichokegrower
The left is against showing some evidence of citizenship to get a driver’s license.
Yet it makes me wonder.
Places like San Francisco are allowing/registering illegals to vote. So how do they sort out the illegals from US citizens during state and federal elections if they did not ask some proof of nationality when registering to vote?

Reality divides us into citizens, legal non-citizens, and illegal non-citizens. Real ID just allows that reality to be verified. Human beings have a right to protect their families, themselves, and all that they've worked for.

Obama and the Democrats had two years to fix this if they didn’t like it. But they wasted those two years shoving a health care system down our throats that most people didn’t want. And then the voters had their say about who controls the House.

#11. Easy solution to a California refusal for a “Real ID”.
Other states refuse to let California citizens drive in their states WITHOUT A “REAL ID” GOVT ISSUED LICENSE.
Checkpoints for the masses.
