President Trumps longtime lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, secretly recorded a conversation with Mr. Trump two months before the presidential election in which they discussed payments to a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump, according to lawyers and others familiar with the recording.
The F.B.I. seized the recording this year during a raid on Mr. Cohens office. The Justice Department is investigating Mr. Cohens involvement in paying women to tamp down embarrassing news stories about Mr. Trump ahead of the 2016 election. Prosecutors want to know whether that violated federal campaign finance laws, and any conversation with Mr. Trump about those payments would be of keen interest to them.

:Would a Secretly Recorded tape be admissible as evidence in Court?:
Ignoring the attorney/client issue for a moment, the admissibility of the tape, if made by anyone, would depend on whether the state in which the taping was done allows “single party consent”.
Ditto that. I could care less. After everything Clinton did to women and Hillary helped and enabled him and no one gave a pea turkey damn about it they can talk to the hand. I didn’t vote for him because I thought he was a saint and I haven’t seen anything that even is an itty bitty fraction of what Clinton did. That’s between he and Melania if it did actually happen. These people are so desperate. They must have done some pretty bad stuff for them to keep grasping at these hysterical straws.
Heh, your post made me chuckle a bit...I just watched a funny movie “Bedazzled” where Elizabeth Hurley is The Devil, and I could not imagine a better choice!
She appeared as The Devil in the movie under various guises and the last one was in a dark pinstriped miniskirt suit and briefcase as a lawyer! In one where she is wearing low cut pants, she turns around and when she bends over, you can see a “666” tramp stamp!
“Pence was behind the hiring of literally every swamp creature in the Administration starting with Reince and has been quietly campaigning to build his own shadow administration. He’s been undercutting DJT from the very beginning - because if Trump falls, he’ll be next in line. It’s super sinister.”
Bears repeating.
I agree with the facets of your take here.
Look, I’ve been hard on Sessions too.
There is still that claim that there are now 40,000 sealed indictments out there.
That list still seems to be growing too.
We both may be red faced before this is over, and I for one would be happy to have been wrong.
I think we’re both trying to keep his feet to the fire, but whatever...
Maybe they got lucky and the playboy bunny is Russian
Attorney-client privilege exists, unless your surname is Trump.
Swamp-Critters, back off....many great Patriots WILL do WHATEVER NECESSARY to protect this President.....you all are neither 10ft tall nor bullet-proof.....
Isn't there an actual payment process where Congress uses taxpayer money to pay off women? We really need to dig into that as deep as we can, I remember it was brought up and then the story faded. Needs to be revived.
What law is violated? I'm not being belligerent - I just don't see any legal violation.
Unless the violation is the recording itself, perhaps - I'm not sure what NYS law says on the matter.
Nobody cares.
In order to get an indictment you need a Grand Jury. Are you telling me that there are all of these sealed indictments and no one has spilled the beans? A little hard to believe.
In the 90s, we stood against rape, assault, infidelity and the use of private eyes to intimidate and silence witnesses.
At the present we stand against infidelity.
That’s all we have to stand against, and I think that’s an important distinction.
“:^)
I cannot speak for NY law, but MA law would not admit a recording that was made with out the permission of one of the parties.
Plus, attorney client privilege would apply.
Finally, the reason this WAS leaked is because its inadmissible. But it is damaging.
I have a hard time believing that this will not result in someone at the FBI getting fired.
The FBI guys are always talking about not being able to speak about ongoing investigations...such bullshit. That whole organization should be put through the ringer. Where is Sessions.
The ONLY upside to this is whether or not Trump’s lawyer had other information that should be made public—information that might have been in that safe for “safe keeping.”
The rule of thumb is that if the payment was in excess of $1 million, the allegations were probably true. If they were around $100K they were false. Either way, the payoffs are typically made because they are cheaper and less damaging than fighting it in court.
So far, any Trump hush settlement payments that have come to light have been on the low end, suggesting they were false allegations.
The fact that the amount is not mentioned tells me that it was on the low end, because a higher figure would be far more incriminating, and the NYT would not pass up an opportunity to damage Trump. Likewise, the NYT would not publish the figure if it was low, because it would suggest the allegations were false.
This is another false allegation - wealthy men are constantly being accused of past sexual misconduct - it comes with the territory.
My impression is that Trump is a germaphobe and avoids shaking hands when possible, and has never smoked, drank, gambled or taken drugs. He has always been married to super models - I doubt he has much, if any, history of sex scandals. He’s just an obvious target for shameless gold diggers - that’s all,
Do I detect an “if only we would have elected Cruz” (or JEB!, Rubio, Kasich, yada yada yada) in your posts? Because, I don’t know about YOUR ballot, but Jesus wasn’t on mine.
Asking for a friend.
What you are addressing there, is my statement that prostitution and purchasing sex is against the law.
I was not referencing the recording, which does change from state to state, and possibly in some municipalities or counties also.
STILL. DO. NOT. CARE.
Except for the destruction of attorney/client privilege.
Interesting. So if two people are conspiring to record a third, that works!
