House Republicans forced a vote Wednesday on a resolution to express support for ICE -- Immigration and Customs Enforcement -- enraging Democrats who complained the measure was a political stunt intended to embarrass Democrats who have called to abolish the embattled agency.
The vote passed by a count of 244 to 35, as 133 Democrats elected to vote "present" on the resolution. The bill was brought to the floor under suspension of the rules, which requires a two-thirds super-majority of members voting and present for passage. About 69 percent of members voted in favor of the resolution.
The showdown played out on Capitol Hill in dramatic fashion as several progressive Democrats have signed onto new legislation that would abolish ICE and redistribute many of its responsibilities to other agencies.

Bring the “Abolish Ice” resolution to the floor and force them to vote on it.
... a political stunt intended to embarrass Democrats...
They needed this.
“a political stunt intended to embarrass Democrats...”
Ummmm ok, it was a vote on a Democrat Party Bill. Unforced error. Dip$hits responsible are probably getting an earful from Bela Pelosie.
The house GOP has been much much tougher than the eGOP in the Senate since the Tea Party took hold.
And the democrats who tried to hide behind a “present” vote get a FAIL vote. In this case if you don’t support ICE then you, by definition, are against it.
I hope they are beat over the head with this over and over.
Exactly, this was a resolution. Political stunt which we should have no time for. Make them vote on real legislation.
Ryan was supposed to bring the actual abolish ICE bill put forward by Democrats but shockingly Ryan wimped out.
They should have just forced them to vote for their Abolish ICE legislation.
How is ICE “embattled” again? Congress and the people support him; a dozen random people at some over-covered rally holding signs that say “abolish ICE” or Twitter hashtags mean diddly-squat.
By not voting the cowards clearly indicate they favor the end of ICE.
That is the conclusion drawn and to be cited in the campaign
It’s funny how they always seem to “report” a passive voice interpretation from the Democrats perspective of what the news is in every story: “a political stunt”. It’s not that Republicans put the new Democrats’ platform on the floor for a vote. No, it was a political stunt.
“Republicans pounce” or “Republicans seize” are two of the tried and true other ones.
18 Yes Democrats include Gottheimer of NJ 5th who must know his northern NJ district. He has voted with GOP in past to save his job.

Libtard progressive DEMs do not want an actual revolution or civil war, their ranks are filled to the brim with full blown wussies.....
Embattled is just media-speak for any leftist-hated group or person, but on occasion, it can also be used to soft pedal an incorrigibly corrupt Democrat. For instance, Anthony Weiner would be “embattled” rather than just called a pervert, but Planned Parenthood would never be “embattled” even in the midst of their baby part sale videos being released.

Meet the Democrats who voted to defend ICE
One of the many advantages of being the majority party in the House is the ability to make the minority party furious. That was the play behind Wednesdays resolution to support Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a nonbinding measure meant entirely to embarrass Democrats, because some of their most left-wing members want ICE to be abolished, and because at the moment that idea is a loser in the polls.
The left-wingers didnt bite. Rep. Marc Pocan (D-Wis.), who has sponsored the Houses only Abolish ICE bill, voted present, as did most of his Democratic colleagues. Eighteen Democrats voted for the resolution, though and Republicans expected them to. An earlier idea, to bring up Pocans bill for a vote, was scrapped after it was seen as an easy no vote for Democrats in swing and Senate races.
But those Democrats ended up backing the resolution anyway along with a few others. Because this is probably not the last stunt vote well see before the midterms, heres a guide to the outliers.
The Trump district Democrats
Just a dozen House Democrats represent districts where voters rejected Hillary Clinton in 2016. Half of them voted to support ICE agents: Rep. Matthew Cartwright (D-Pa.), Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.), Rep. Ron Kind (D-Wis.), Rep. Conor Lamb (D-Pa.), Rep. Tom OHalleran (D-Ariz.), and Rep. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.).
” GOP forces House Democrats into ‘gotcha vote’”....
Wish the GOP worked like that every day. Might even vote for one or two in time.
