Banning straws: Another stupid 'save the world' move

Want to sip a refreshing beverage this summer?

If environmental zealots and sycophants get their way, you won’t be allowed to sip it through a plastic straw.

Actress Nina Nelson and other celebrities made a video claiming that plastic straws kill sea life: “In the USA alone, over 500 million straws are being used every single day, most of which are going into our oceans.”

“I will stop sucking,” vowed the celebrities.

In obedient response, Seattle banned plastic straws, and other places plan to follow. Starbucks, Hyatt and Hilton are all abandoning straws.

Katy Tang, of San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors, says, “We are no longer going to allow for plastic straws here.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio agrees: “Their time has come and gone.”

But before politicians ban things in the name of saving the world, I wish they’d take the trouble to actually study what good the ban would do.

Plastic garbage in oceans is a genuine problem. But most of the pollution comes from Asia. A small amount does come from America, but only a tiny fraction of that is plastic straws.

Degrees from dumbassistan U proven to be true with abundant dumassery. And, the worst of the polluted rivers belong to asia. No rivers in the US were listed in the top 10. Didn't we just read that China is no longer taking our plastic trash to recycle? Yes Virginia, the single stream scam your local waste management company is foisting on you is just that.

Ban straws, but hand out free heroin syringes. Makes perfect sense.

In the USA alone, over 500 million straws are being used every single day,

So per capita, that's about 1.5 straws per day. Possible? I haven't used a straw in about 1 month, so some toddler somewhere is taking up my quota.

As for "all winding up in the oceans" - well, what do you expect from an actor, but stupidly?

Of course Starbucks solution uses MORE plastic than the straw and lid combo.

Will coffee stirrers be next?

Used condoms also making their way to the ocean?

A small amount does come from America, but only a tiny fraction of that is plastic straws.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Waxed paper straws work just fine. Just because the rest of the world mindlessly pollutes, doesn't mean we should not try to improve our own behavior.

Wait a minute. The entire population of the USA, including infants, is around 325 million people. So, on average, every person in the USA uses one straw a day, with some folks using multiple straws?

Nope, I’m not buying it. Now here’s something I could believe: In the USA alone, over 500 million stupid liberal comments are being made every single day.

BYO straws?

Better yet, bring a bunch and sell them to the other patrons.

It’ll probably get you kicked out and banned, but that worth it IMHO.

My wife heard about this. She treats people who have had strokes. They use straws because they have to.

Little children use straws for similar reasons. How much plastic will be used because they will now create disposable sippy-cups to prevent constant spillage from kids?

In Japan I was introduced to my own set of chopsticks, drinking straw, and hot or cold coffee cup. All to be washed and reused every day. Also no paper towels. You have a reusable non woven that you take out of your pocket, dry your hands, and fold back up and return it to your pocket.

What I’m not buying is that most of it ends up in the ocean.

What about paper straws?

As far as little children go,there were NO sippy cups when I raised my family, and we NEVER used straws——we survived just fine.

Plastic straws can be purchased for those who really need them.

You sly dog; beat me to it. Of course, hollywood actresses will never stop sucking, especially those as unknown as this one.

I do not believe this is true, and maybe not even possible.

I can’t even remember the last time I used a straw.

Do I get a special virtue award—a ribbon or something?

(Gawd these people make me vomit.)
