So per capita, that's about 1.5 straws per day. Possible? I haven't used a straw in about 1 month, so some toddler somewhere is taking up my quota.
As for "all winding up in the oceans" - well, what do you expect from an actor, but stupidly?
I can’t even remember the last time I used a straw.
Do I get a special virtue award—a ribbon or something?
(Gawd these people make me vomit.)
From the Stossel video, the 500 million figure comes from a 10 year-old boy, Milo Cress, who did a telephone study for his school project. The actual figure may be 175 million. When you figure that the U.S. contribution to ocean plastic pollution is only 1%. Of that, plastic straws are a minuscule amount, hardly worth the cost of alternatives to plastic straws.
As for me, I love my soda (and sometimes beer) over ice. I use the same plastic straw. No sea turtle is going to get that straw!
