The recall of a common drug used to control blood pressure and help prevent heart failure was announced by the US Food and Drug Administration on Friday, a week after 22 other countries recalled it because the drug contains a chemical that poses a potential cancer risk. Valsartan is off patent and is used as a component of other generic medicines, but not all medicines containing the ingredient are involved, according to the FDA.
The US recall includes the the versions of valsartan that are made by Major Pharmaceuticals, Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. as well as valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) sold by Solco Healthcare and Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd.

I take generic “hydrochlorot”. Have no clue what’s in it but it works for me and I HATE changing prescriptions. I don’t think that’s good for a person to change drugs all the time. Stick with what works best for you and argue with the doctor if they want to change what works.
Neighbor saw a local news report on this and checked her RX. CVS advised to bring the RX in to check reference #’s.
I am not in the medical field, but thought it might be of interest to those of us who are on HTN and heart medicine.
Check with your doctor and pharmacist for reassurance.
God bless

Bkmrk.
“Check with your doctor and pharmacist for reassurance.”
Check with your pharmacist. He/she is the guy with the most knowledge and up to date info. And no vested interest in pushing one drug over another.
here’s a bit more info:

see if yours is made by one of the 3 generic makers being recalled; if so, save any you have for future lawsuits, and quickly get your doc to switch you to something different ... there are tons of different types of ARBs, so maybe a different one than generic Diovan (valsartan) ... Benicar (olmesartan medoxomil) is a good one ...
My mom takes this! I used to take it when I smoked & had HBP.
So it is a crappy Chinese company behind it. Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. My mom’s is recalled. Thanks Nixon-Ford-Carter-Reagan-Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama!
I also hear it causes diarrhea and constipation, sleeplessness and sleepiness.
Just got back from my mom's general care MD. Valsartan is 1 of her drugs. Doc said that pills contain other ingredients in addition to the active drug, e.g., fillers, buffers, and activators. She said the NDMA is used as a drug activator. Toxicologists have always said that most everything under the heavens is toxic at a high enough concentration. 9

How’s your GI tract and vision, as ALL hypertension drugs cause issues with both. 3 months on generic Cardizem damaged my corneas, they don’t know if they will heal, and they create painful Dry Eye Syndrome nothing relieves. So my glasses are nearly useless. Got the damaged GI tract to, but that was already ruined by Osteoarthritis drugs.
Scripts from the Military base do NOT include manufacture. And mine come from the Navy base as hubby is Ret. SCPO on Tricare Life.
No kidding. "We force fed pigs pure NDMA until their stomachs were ready to burst for a solid year, then slaughtered them and found a tumor in one of the pigs..."
I take generic Valsartan, but mine is not from any of the named companies, so I’m going to continue unless told differently by my doctor or pharmacist.
Me too. MCLEODS. I have read they are one of four manufacturers unaffected.
MCLEODS is in India. The suspect pills are from China.
