Attorneys working with the Office of the Special Counsel Robert Mueller on Tuesday submitted a request for immunity for up to five witnesses his team have asked to testify against Paul Manafort, former chairman of the Trump campaign.
Mueller made the request in a court filing Tuesday afternoon, which also requests that the identity of the potential witnesses remain under seal. According to the filing, the potential witnesses have yet to be publicly identified with the ongoing investigation into the Trump campaign's alleged ties to Russia, and the office wishes to shield them from "undue harassment."
"The five individuals identified in the motions at issue are third parties who have not been charged in this matter, and who have not been identified publicly with the case," the filing reads.
"Disclosing the motions would reveal those individuals involvement in the investigation and the trial, thereby creating the risk of their undue harassment," it continues.
Manafort is charged with money laundering and lobbying violations related to his work for pro-Russia parties in Ukraine prior to joining the Trump campaign. He has denied any wrongdoing and plead not guilty last year, but a former business associate, Rick Gates, plead guilty to similar charges earlier this year.
The former top Trump aide was ordered to jail last month by a federal judge for violating the terms of his bail agreement by allegedly attempting to tamper with a witness. His trial in Virginia is scheduled for July 24, and he is set to defend himself in September against charges filed in Washington, D.C.
News of the witnesses planning to testify against Manafort comes just a day after President Trump seemed to side with Russian President Vladimir Putin against the conclusion of his own intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election on his behalf.
We have political prisoners in this country. Just ask Scooter Libby.
No collusion.
The right to be confronted by your accused. This POS continues to operate as if he is running the star chamber.
how bout those 12 russians putin invited you to interview?
Sounds like blackmail under color of law.

That’s exactly what it is.
Even worse, they are going to give bigger criminals immunity in order to nail lesser criminals, if they are criminals at all, and not being set-up by the bigger criminals getting the immunity.
Poor Manafort. Not necessarily defending him, but he has become Mueller’s only hope in not disgracing himself.
Hey, at least I took Manafort down.
I cracked him like a walnut in solitary for so long...
Mueller, you scrounge...

Immunity for Podesta’s??
“intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election on his behalf”
What agencies concluded it was on Trumps behalf?
Good gosh! Can it get any more Banana Republic w these DS creatures??
Mueller and Rosenstein are intent on running an opaque Kafkaesque Star Chamber. It is an insult to American justice. Show us everything.
BOy that mueller team leaks like a sieve.
Podesta, Abedin, Loretta Lynch, Debbie W-S?
He will no doubt have picked some people who can really use the immunity, but who have NOTHING of value to add to prosecuting Manafort.
This seems VERY, VERY dangerous, IMHO.
Immunity for Podestas??
Of course, this is a selected prosecution. I am waiting for the guilty conviction so Trump can swoop in a give him a pardon citing that he was the least guilty of the bunch.
How is it that if a drug dealer testifies against a drug lord, the testimony is questioned and sometimes invalidated because the drug dealer could just be trying to cut a deal to save themselves, but these kinds of immunity deals are acceptable? How is it that the left think that information gathered from waterboarding is invalid, because it encourages false testimony - but information gathered from a plea deal with immunity is valid?
I am shocked I tell you. Completely shocked /s
