Former President George W. Bush says hes disturbed by the immigration debate occurring under President Trump, where after decades, Americans are speaking out against mass immigration to the United States. During a panel discussion alongside former President Bill Clinton, Bush said the current immigration debate doesnt recognize the valuable contributions of foreign nationals.
Im disturbed by the debate thats taking place because I think it undermines the goodness of America, Bush said. I think it doesnt recognize the valuable contributions that immigrants make to our society. And it obscures the fact the rhetoric does that the system is broken and needs to be fixed.

Interesting photo...is that Jim Baker driving the boat?
This is coming from a man who had eight years to do something about it. You know what they say, George: “lead, follow, or get out of the way.” Don’t let the doorknob hit you, George.
Hey George!
Its about ILLEGAL Immigration!
Nobody is knocking LEGAL immigrants!

I agree 100% ‘I used to love him’
Now very disappointed. His Christmas cards are in the trash.
Bush and his cronies wouldn't even allow any restrictions or additional vetting for people entering the country from the nations that produced the 9/11 terrorists - i.e. Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, because that would have been "racial profiling".
Who?
The man who tried to force through open borders shortly after 9/11
The Sessions hatefest is well justified for many reasons- his recusal allowing the witch hunt to happen and continue unabated, wasting time and money ; for mutely standing by when Antifa and BLM thugs commit mayhem and are set free; for doing nothing substantial re: sanctuary cities, voter fraud, the border, the DNC cabal and upholding the rule of law.
But, Mark Levin loved him! *spit*
Th group think is wrong.
Groupthinkers assume the President is stupid.
It would be a lot more justified if it weren’t for the fact that most of the people who hate Sessions want to replace him with pro-amnesty Giuliani or Christie. If they had their way, all of America would be a “sanctuary city.”
It always comes down to 2 choices; you picked the lesser of evil of the 2, as did I.
Proud to say that I didn’t vote for him in the primary, the first time.
Kate Steinle was not available for comment.
He was in my mind, just a speed bump in the destruction of our great country. Thank God for President Trump.
How can you say with a straight face that Sessions does “nothing about the border”? His enforcement of a zero tolerance policy on illegal immigration and rejection of phony asylum claims is what sent the political establishment into conniption fits about “separating families.” Of course, it would have been so much better if Giuliani were AG, so that we’d have something putting out a welcome mat for illegals and their families instead \sarc>
Sad to see him playing Armchair QB. I was hoping that he'd shut up, stick to his painting, and occasionally dress up to play the role of "retired statesman" and accept an accolade or two.
Nah, we all got played. Thankfully, Trump came along and exposed to the world what many FReepers knew - or at least suspected - already. Politics necessarily will change, I think.
And - honestly - at a national level, our only choices were liberal democrats, and slightly less liberal democrats. With Bush, McCain, Romney, etc, we chose the best of a bad lot.
And, that's questionable.
Thats George Herbert Walker Bush driving the boat.
Yeh he was disturbed by it for 8 years while he was President also. Trying to jam amnesty down our throats. Shut up George!
Well here we come up against word usage. I was saying they were unpopular because POTUS has to take such heat for his stands. In Washington DC they are decidedly unpopular which is why members of his administration are being hounded out of establishments and verbally attacked.
Do I think the attackers are insane? Yes. Is President Trump winning the hearts and minds of America? Yes. More than 50% approval when the poll skewing is adjusted for.
In short our President says and does what he believes is morally correct & is in America’s interest no matter who gives him flak. I think that constitutes taking unpopular stands because in the circles he travels they are deeply unpopular. If you want to quibble that they are not unpopular with you, or with middle America, true & true but really missing the point and not respecting the cost to him and the respect he deserves.
