When will California reach the breaking point?

“It’s now illegal in California to shower and do laundry on the same day,” my husband read out loud to me a few weeks ago.

“How are they going to police that?” I wondered.

“It doesn’t matter,” he replied. “California is so out of touch with reality that it just doesn’t matter anymore.”

It saddens me to watch my former home state implode, but that’s precisely what is happening. California has been called the world’s largest insane asylum, and as headline piles upon headline illustrating the latest madness, the description seems apt.

It’s no wonder people are fleeing the Golden State in droves. What is the incentive to stay when taxes are sky-high, regulations are draconian and capricious, crime is rampant, infrastructure is crumbling, and politicians are so out of touch with reality they think they can make it illegal to shower and do laundry on the same day?

Housing prices, of course, are famously irrational. In Sunnyvale, a modest 848-square-foot home on a tiny lot gained national notoriety for its selling price. “After being listed in March for $1.45 million, it sold within 48 hours for $2 million, or $2,358 per square foot,” noted ZeroHedge. “With Sunnyvale’s 1.25 percent property tax, the new owners are paying $2,083 per month, or $250,000 every 10 years.”

It’s more than just the insane cost of living in the state. Many people are also fleeing the insane policies. Entrepreneur and venture capitalist Peter Thiel (a co-founder of PayPal and an early Facebook investor) says it’s one thing for a culture to be “quite liberal” and another for it to be “totalitarian.” Dissenting opinions are not permitted. If you don’t believe me, walk onto any California college campus with a MAGA hat and see how long you last.

We’re doing just fine in California. I just finished fixing breakfast and ate it in the cockpit of my 40 ft sailboat that is docked in the beautiful Ventura Harbor. In a bit I’m taking my grandson to the beach so he can surf. Later today we’re having a dock party with the neighbors who are bringing lobsters they trapped. Yeah, life is pretty good here

H. Clinton 5,589,936

Trump 3,021,095

_______________________________________________

Based on the 2016 election, nearly twice the amount of people voted for Clinton than Trump.

Even at 3 to 2, that's huge. But don't believe me, just look at who controls the state politically at nearly every level.

Assembly Bill 1668 is what they’re referring to. It doesn’t say you can’t have a shower and do laundry on the same day but it limits usage to only 55 gallons per person per day.

“To give you perspective on how much water basic chores require, the station noted an eight-minute shower uses about 17 gallons of water, a load of laundry up to 40, and a bathtub can hold 80 to 100 gallons of water.” http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2018/06/07/tammy-bruce-californias-new-water-rules-are-making-people-flee-golden-state.html

That is what I tried to explain in #89. Maybe I was writing in cockney rhyming slang or something, no it was plain old English.

We actually didn’t let this happen. In 1994, we saw this coming and passed Prop 187, probably the nation’s first real attempt to stop illegal immigration. Its implementation was largely blocked by the FEDERAL courts. Then the FEDERAL government refused to enforce immigration law, and California filled up with illegal aliens, who either became citizens via FEDERAL amnesties or whose kids were born citizens because of FEDERAL anchor baby law. In any event, native Californians may have gotten slightly more liberal over time due to the self-selection process, but for the most part, the political shift has come about because the FEDERAL government failed to stop illegal immigration.

That is actually perfect. Mexico would nationalize silicon valley, then run it into the ground.

I have been a Trump supporter from the movement he rode down the escalator with Melania. I donated the maximum amount to his campaign. I also love California. Yes, it has idiot leftist politicians, but the state is just too big and diverse for even them to destroy.

California has the best weather, the best colleges, and the strongest business environment, despite the regulations, in the country. It is so diverse that anyone can find a place to have a good life. Where I live we have a strong economy, fabulous weather, a great evangelical Church, and beautiful lands. You just need to be flexible and work hard. While I love where I live, I would not live in 90% of California. I don’t like Southern California.

The whole San Francisco is a “Sh&thole” story is complete fake news. It is an amazing vibrant city and is currently a boomtown. The population has grown 10% since 2010. Yes, there are homeless issues, but a lot of has been caused by the growth, as poorer people have been pushed out of their neighborhoods by corporate development. Unlike Seattle and Portland, SF has a positive corporate environment. Just look at a list of the companies headquarter in SF.

The real estate is expense due to supply and demand (please remember Econ 101). The demand is high due to the strong economy and the tech company growth. The supply is limited due to geography. SF is surrounded by water on three sides.

California has lots of issues, but I have no intention of moving. BTW, I see lots of Texas license plates where I live.

Pure utter B.S. It's hard to read an article that starts out with a point of propaganda but the article is from WND. I call it World nut daily.

We’re retired so could live anywhere we want. Our house is paid for so could pay cash somewhere else. We own the boat in Ventura and property on the Big Island of Hawaii which I stay at a couple of times a year. I just got back from a trip to visit relatives in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and yes, Texas. Can’t see myself living in any of them. Guess that’s why we’re still here. And yeah, life is pretty good for me.

BS...Not too many jobs in the middle of the desert or boonies where a home might still be reasonable in price. And the reason why millions of former CA middle class have bailed out, only to be replaced by foreign nationals with big $$. Those are brutal facts.

I’ve heard of that stupid non-indigenous smelt.

The amount of fresh water wasted in the California Delta region east of San Francisco to preserve a non-native specie of fish would be enough to serve the needs of four million homes.

California won't crash. It will devolve.

It's not an independent country. There are 49 other states and the federal government to step up and give them help to stay afloat.

If it was an independent country it would be Venezuela by now.

"We" won't let it fail and because they will never experience the full impact of their bad choices they will keep making bad choices.

Uncle Moneybags will always be there to bail them out of the mess they're creating.

What part of Texas?

Some parts....like west Texas, are arid (low humidity). Central TX is less humid than E/SE TX.

Where would you live the other half of the year (that’s not hot/humid)?

Our kid is working in N. Austin and lives near Round Rock. I didn't mean to imply we would only live there for half a year. Just would need to deal with the hottest half of the year.

Hog wash. To prove my point, here is a lovely 1,000 square foot, 55 year old shack....for $429,000..IN COMPTON...☺☺

But I'm not sure if it comes with bullet resistant glass.

Cali is the RICHEST state in the nation. Big Deal. Venezuala was the RICHEST nation in South America with vast reserves of OIL!!!
It is no necessarily the MONEY you have. Rather what counts is how foolishly you flush it down the sanitary facility, and that it what California has been doing in spades. Also, whose fingers on into all that money?
