Just hours after Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, media legal analysts and commentators began forecasting what this will mean for womens reproductive freedom. On CNN: Roe v. Wade is doomed. Huffington Post: Its time to prepare for life without nationwide legal abortion. Reuters: a death knell for Roe v. Wade. Or, as one commenter remarked, invoking Dylan, looks like its all over now, baby blue.
I share the despair, but have we forgotten something? Republicans have a one-vote majority in the Senate. Their number includes two female moderates, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, both of whom support abortion rights, and one of whom Ms. Collins has already declared this week that she would not support a candidate hostile to Roe v. Wade.

He was bought with a milk subsidy.
What will buy these two prostitutes?..................
The time it is is the time to give these two dipwads the finger and tell them to continue flushing themselves to progressive levels.
To listen to all the angst, you would swear that the only issue out there is abortion. You would swear that’s all the liberals care about.
You would swear that the only important issue which will come.before the courts in the years ahead is abortion. And you would swear that, the way liberals are, that you must believe in unlimited abortion rights, otherwise you want to see women impaled on coat hangers.
The liberals absolutely seem incapable of having calm discussion about the nuances of issues.
delusional. we will keep all the republicans and flip at least three dems.
Narcissism and human sacrifice to is a major left wing sacrament
The phony hysteria is all politics and much ado about nothing.
Ditto for Arlen Spector in 2008, handing the 60-40 supermajority to the dems.
“Just hours after Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement, media legal analysts and commentators began forecasting what this will mean for womens reproductive freedom.”
Total B.S. scare tactics. Repeal of Roe will mean a ton less than the scare tactics imply. Why? Most all states have their own laws regarding abortion, and at this point in time I don’t see any of them repealing 100% of any legalisty of abortion, and I suspect the majority of states will change nothing at all.
Yes, I expect some states to lower the number of weeks at which abortion is not allowed, to twenty weeks, and to add more nedical tranparency - patients seeing an ultrasound - and other requirements, for patrients to make truly morally informed decisions. But abortion banned across the country? Not in my lifetime and I expect to live to a very old age.
If God wants it stopped, it will be stopped. And Collins and Murkowsky will have no say in the matter
Murkowsky, McCain, Graham, Rubio, Alexander, Corker, Hatch, Heller, Hoeven, Flake already voted to give the Democrats a permanent majority in 2013, they just wear the R jersey to fool people.
I know there are many sellouts within the GOP, but I also believe we have Democrats who have purposely infiltrated the party to ruin it.
NOTHING is more important to these azzholes than being able to kill your baby anytime you want.
Since the senators aint nearly far enough left I doubt it will happen
Apparently true for some at FR
They would give up a majority that mostly works with Trump and let the left have their way
Stupid idea
Oh goody that would make it 51-49 dems
Do you really want that
“delusional. we will keep all the republicans and flip at least three dems.”
If McConnell had the leadership skills of Harry Reid, Joe Manchin would have switched sides to the GOP in 2016. Reid flipped Jeffords and Arlen Specter. Of course if McConnell were a tough leader like Reid and Schumer, we wouldn’t be seeing Collins, Murkowski, Flake, Corker, McCain and others running off the reservation.
As long as McConnell is majority leader, expect treachery.
Apparently you dont know their states
How very FNC of you
They have to keep feeding it.
