With no one looking, state lawmakers just passed another new tax (New York)

State lawmakers proved it again last month: Watch them closely or they’ll get you good. That’s what they did when they passed a new bereavement-leave bill at the 11th hour as the legislative session ended.

The bill would force employers to offer workers 10 — yes, 10 — weeks of time off with pay whenever a family member dies. That may sound nice, but the cost would be paid by the worker himself, via a 0.126 percent payroll deduction. Via a new tax, that is.

Historically politicians love to hold the bag, just ask Judas. Or Social Security. Somehow the bag always has a hole in it.

10 weeks. I would not be off ten weeks if Francis of Assisi was my brother and was run over by an ice cream truck...

Why on God’s green earth would anyone choose to live in New York? I also do not understand why any business would not up its roots and move to a free state where they might just be able to make a profit for the owners instead of the state.

10 weeks = 19.2% of a year. A 0.126% payroll deduction to pay or it would imply that it would only pay off once every 153 years for each employee. And that's only if there are no administrative costs (Ha!).

Most people will lose a parent or two during their working years. Or does this only apply to family members living in the household?

10 weeks?? Good grief. (Pardon the pun.) Most people will tell you the best thing to do is to get back to work within a short period. After my wife died, I was back at work within a week. Keeping busy kept me from going crazy.

Ten weeks?! I only took off one day for my dad and that was the day he died. We tried to minimize days family would miss work. Even at the factories I think they only got three for a close relative.

Some folks will probably milk this for 4 or 5 close relatives a year.

.126 x 100000= 12600. That’s some dough. If there is excess, which there will be, I’m sure it will be spent on something else.

This may increase the murder for hire plotting.

Ten weeks paid vacation plus insurance payouts...

I had a coworker that lost about a dozen grandmas?
And he only took a day or two without pay; many Fridays.

New York is total toast. They are communist parasite. to the core. Now they don’t get their tax deduction ( Thank You Mr. President!!) They actually elected a criminal for Senator — Hillary, and a moron—mental midget — schumer. I can’t imagine a a more intellectually deficient voter enclave in this country. unless it is San fag Sicko. ( Hell it is san fag sicko!!)

Wow. What a ripoff.

One of these days New York state residents are going to have a tar and feather party — unless there is no one left there who pays taxes.

My mother died in 85’ and my boss called me the day after the funeral and wanted to know when I was coming back to work.

It seems like a traumatic incident and the poor New Yorker needs a fully paid lifetime pension.

The writing is piss poor but I think it’s .126% which would require your 100,000 be multiplied by .00126 to yield $126.

.126 % = .00126 x 100000 = 126.
