The letters section of the New York Times is a fascinating insight into the state of liberalism, just as Kremlinologists used to study closely who stood where during military parades to figure out the state of affairs in the Soviet Union.
....snip
What is most interesting about the letters to the Times is that many liberals fear, correctly, that this will drive voters into the arms of Republicans, and Trump, in 2018 and 2020.

I am a lifelong Democrat. Never voted for a Republican in my life. Though I despise Trump, as dimwitted and mendacious as he largely is, I think he has his finger on the pulse of the majority of American voters' attitudes towards illegal aliens.....

We have just the one job -- showing up in November and sweeping their doubled-down leftist agitprop and its advocates back under their rocks.
People that painted themselves into inescapable corners during the 2016 campaign on both the left and right are suffering a derangement syndrome far worse than the critics of Obama or Bush ever represented. -- Kevin McCullough [Why Disruption is Beating Resistance | April 22, 2018]
If those letters are for real, it’ll be a sad day for Dems this November.
If the majority of Americans agree with tough border control and deporting illegals, what made the loons on the left in the political establishment think calling for ICE to be abolished is a good thing?
—
Because they’re like little children. They WANT it, so therefore they think if they demand it often enough, they’ll get it.
Now, you could say “well, WHY do they want it, since they have to live here TOO...” and the answer to that is... because they’re like little children, and they want it because Trump DOESN’T want it and he’s bad because they heard it on TV.
The Democrats can howl and lament all they want. Too bad. They openly tipped their hand. They are the advocates of open borders, socialism and the abolishment of ICE as well as effective law enforcement. This message has to be made clear and repeated often in all swing Congressional districts and competitive Senate races. Trump and the conservative PACs will do their part. However it will be up to the Republican candidates themselves to grow a pair and campaign effectively.
It is amazing how quickly the left has jumped on this meme, without giving it any thought.
The charges they make against ICE are completely false, and its so easy to prove in short rebuttals.
They are calling for open borders and the destruction of our sovereignty.
There is NOTHING to “reform”!!!
Abolishing law and order doesn’t usually get a lot of votes... But hey... If that’s DemocRAT’s strategy, let them go with it and we’ll see how many votes they get in November.
It has diminished their ‘blue wave’.
Each of their issues is another free campaign ad. Every time they open their mouths is another free ad. Keep Pelosi as Speaker. Let Maxine run her mouth.
It doesn’t get much better than this.
What they are advocating is the dissolution of the nation.
I don’t think the Dems want to win.
Every illegals made into a citizen creates a ‘loyal’ democrat voter who will ‘vote’ self interest.
Democrats don't care if our schools are stretched to incompetence, or our roads crowded and forced into obsolescence, or our wages depressed by illegals working cheap... ALL they care about is their own power.
Be sure that everyone understands that abolishhing ICE means eliminating the US borders....everybody comes, anytime.
That's what all anti-Americans want.
“Kamila Harris needs to be strongly encouraged to force the issue in the senate.”
Yep, and what the hell, McConnell could bring it up for a VOTE tomorrow. Let the Democrats go ON RECORD having to vote on such a bill. I PROMISE YOU if Republican Senators were saying something that stupid, the Democrats would POUNCE.
The swamp leaders in ICE are resisting Trump.
