If progressives hate Donald Trump so much, why are they trying so hard to get him re-elected?
They may believe, with justification, that Donald Trump is vulgar and mean-spirited. They may think he acts more like a bully in middle school than a president. They may be convinced, based on the evidence before them, that he's impulsive and dishonest.
But he's not a Nazi, no matter how many times they say he is. And he's not Adolf Hitler, despite what their fevered imagination keeps telling them.
Now we have not some anonymous leftist at a street rally but a former head of the CIA taking to Twitter to tell us that, "Other governments have separated mothers and children," referring to the president's border policy (at the time). And just in case you didn't get the connection to the Nazis, Michael Hayden - who led the CIA under the presidency of George W. Bush - attached a picture of railroad tracks leading into the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp.
Then, when he got hammered for his shameful comparison, he issued the standard non-apology apology: "If I [went too far] by comparing it to Birkenau, I apologize to anyone who may have felt offended."
And if we needed any proof that there is such a thing as Trump Derangement Syndrome just tune in to "Morning Joe" on MSNBC any day of the week. Here's what Joe Scarborough had to say about the separation of children from their parents on the border: "Children are being marched away to showers just like the Nazis said that they were taking people to the showers, and then they never came back."
The hard left apparently learned nothing from Hillary Clinton's defeat. She lost for many reasons, but one of them was her description of Trump supporters as "deplorables." Voters don't like it when elitists call them names.
Yet, we have "Morning Joe" regular Donny Deutsch, an ad executive and Scarborough sycophant, saying it's not only Donald Trump who progressives should hold accountable, it's everybody who supports him.
"This can no longer be about who Trump is, it has to be about who we are," Deutsch said about the next elections. "We can no longer say Trump's the bad guy. If you vote for Trump, you're the bad guy."
Then, the inevitable comparison to Hitler and the Nazis.
"If you vote for Trump, then you, the voter, you, not Donald Trump, are standing at the border, like Nazis," Deutsch said. "If you vote, you can no longer separate yourself" from the "evilness of Donald Trump."
A mind is terrible thing to waste, but that's what's happening to those suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome. They have lost touch with reality.
So let's take a trip to the past, to get re-acquainted with historical reality. Our guide is Jay Winik, an historian and author who penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal under the headline, "Trump's Critics Desecrate the Holocaust."
"Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe were rounded up and packed into cattle cars, with little air or light, no food and virtually no water, for a harrowing two- to three-day trip to Auschwitz. They rode in terror and anticipation, having no idea what was in store for them at the destination. Exhausted and scared, they frequently had to stand for the entire trip. Mothers clutched sons; daughters held on to fathers; children gripped both parents' hands; grandparents and the infirm struggled to stay alive. Many didn't survive the journey."
I wonder if Michael Hayden, Joe Scarborough or Donny Deutsch thought about any of that when they made their Nazi comparisons. I wonder if they considered any of what else Mr. Winick wrote.
"When the trains arrived at Auschwitz, it was a scene of chaos, confusion and horror. After days trapped in darkened cattle cars, squinting into bright floodlights lining the tracks was almost unbearable. So was the stench, like nothing the captives had ever smelled before. They didn't know it at the time, but it was the odor of burning human flesh and hair."
Question for Joe Scarborough: Does that sound like what's happening on the border between the U.S. and Mexico?
Does this?
"Outside they heard all kinds of noises: German shepherds and Doberman pinschers barking loudly, and commands in German most of them couldn't understand. When they stumbled out of the cattle cars, disoriented and anxious, timidly asking questions, the Germans shouted back, 'Raus, raus raus!' ('Out, out, out!') In the distance, the prisoners saw a skyline of chimneys, with bright orange plumes of flame shooting into the clouds. They didn't know that most of them would be ash within hours."
I found it painful to read those words. I wonder if Joe Scarborough and the others would find it painful too, or if their hatred of this president is so intense that it allows them to make Nazi comparisons with no sense of shame.
Contempt for Donald Trump may make the unhinged left feel good, but it might wind up helping him in 2020 - and his fellow Republicans in November.
The president's press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was recently asked to leave a restaurant in Virginia because, the owner said, her restaurant "has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty and compassion, and cooperation."
Trump supporters won't forget what happened at that restaurant. Neither, I suspect, will independents, even if they're not big fans of the president.
And they won't forget what Congresswoman Maxine Waters, the progressive Democrat from California, said about that incident at the restaurant.
At a rally in Los Angeles she said that, "If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you cause a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they're not welcome - anymore, anywhere."
You don't have to like Donald Trump to be disgusted with his most hateful, condescending critics. Maxine Waters, Joe Scarborough and the others suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome are so far gone they can't see what's happening: They're not hurting the president they hate - but they just might be paving the way for his re-election.
The coverage that Trump got was very tame compared to now and it ended up being worth millions of dollars for the exposure he got.
There were a lot of stories the LSM could have run but they didn't. NBC bought a fierce British expose that I thought they would use at some point, but they never did. Why not? Because, they were instructed to "damage, but not too much."
My point is Hillary wanted a sure fire win for herself and she thought that Trump would deliver her the presidency. All she had to do was get him to the point where he would be the winner of all the primaries.
This should make both of you very happy as it does me because Trump winning increased the frustration for the LSM a hundred-fold. They did their job to deliver Trump through the primaries only to have sold him TOO WELL in the end.
Years ago, when Pat Buchanan was running for president, I heard a big news reporter say, "I like Pat, I really do, but we are going to have to take him down." And, they did.
The LSM did not go full bore on Trump, yeah they got a little mean, but they were not going to hurt his chances of being Hillary's preferred opponent.
So what did Trump do? He won when he wasn't supposed to and it proved that she is not the brightest bulb on the chandelier. Trump is.
Now they are bellyaching to beat the band. And, it pleases me greatly.
#21 is interesting
No, Jeb was the designated Republican opponent - agreed to by both sides - well before the campaign kicked off.
His job was to gracefully lose to Hillary - the historic first woman president in our history.
Trump was never factored into the Uniparty's well laid plans, and was a wild card that came out of nowhere.
He won, in large part, because the political establishment had no idea how to deal with such a candidate. He was independently wealthy, a name brand, industry titan, widely admired, best selling author, beholden to no one, and completely uncontrollable.
There was nothing in any of their playbooks that could help them tackle such a character. He flummoxed the entire establishment so badly, Obama resorted to siccing his deep state jackals on his campaign, in a last ditch effort to either find some dirt on him, or set his people up to commit some federal offense.
In the end, nothing worked, and Trump beat them all.
Again you COMPLETELY miss the point, which is what happens when you spend so much time with your head in the tee vee. Liberal OR conservative.
Donald Trump is one of the two or three best businessmen of the 20th and 21st century.
The economy was terrible.
A LOT of people of both parties thought maybe we should put a businessman in the White House.
Forget Hillary and all the other extraneous BS. A big bloc of voters wanted Donald Trump because he WAS Donald Trump, world-class businessman.
And they still do. Because it’s WORKING.
Well said, Windflier. And now they better be careful about taking pitchforks to a gunfight.
Can’t predict crazy. Half the reason why I’ve been here so long.
:P
Two (formerly) unhinged liberals discussing the aftermath of CWII...
Lib 1: "Dude....what...what the xxxx just happened to us??"
Lib 2: "You really wanna know the truth? We thought we were opening a can of worms, but it was really a can of whoopass."
Does anyone know what the Democrats have to offer as a political party except hate? Hate Trump, the police, the military, most white men, Christianity, national sovereignty, just to name a few in their endless stream of hate.
----------
These aren't radicals in the Alinsky sense of the word who believe in working within a constituency to gain power. These are anarchists and revolutionaries who's message falls well outside of any effective group that will support them. The reason these fools are making these statements are known only to them and a limited group of hyper-hate filled individuals who will not gain acceptance within any group which can help their cause.
The Kameleon Harris from the Left Coast and the Hyphenated Hispanic from New York chanting for dissolution of ICE are way, way outside of any effective constituency and will be shunned by most Democrat voters outside their little comfort zones. A left leaning pollster just found that 60% of Democrats and 75% of independents do not agree with their ridiculous notions. That's no way to win elections in a broad base of America and the longer they scream these extreme views, the more independents and hopefully Dems will vote for the Republican choices outside the East and Left Coast.
Let them carry on while making a point to voters the craziness of their positions. Then laugh at them all the way to the swearing in ceremony.
A big bloc of voters wanted Donald Trump because he WAS Donald Trump, world-class businessman. * * * I was one of those voters! From the moment he came down the escalator, I was captivated by what he might do to thoroughly change Presidential politics... and fix the country. Rather than being "unqualified" to be POTUS, Trump understood politics at a very deep level because he made deals with the big city bosses of New York and Chicago. So many steps he took in life prepared him for his TRiUMPhant electoral victory -- and his current success as President. — Writing business success books (he created the category) Now in terms of business, I think he made his mark mostly as a private, entrepreneurial businessman. Trump understands public company business and Wall Street, but he was never a creature of Wall Street. Rather, he took Main Street (lone entrepreneur) business to its highest level. And to become the King of Main Street business — where you get to call your own shots and not do the bidding of Wall Street financiers — he had to become the King of Self-Promotion. And when you combine Self-Promotion with entrepreneurial competence, well, there's maybe nothing in this world you can't achieve — as he's proving! |
Also factor in that Trump has decades of experience in getting free media coverage, though not nearly as intense as now or during the campaign.
The media also made big bucks through higher ratings. A symbiotic relationship.
Well, lemme see if I can think of a few redeeming qualities...
They do like jihadist muslims, sexual perverts, invading illegal hordes, socialist despots, melanin enriched racists, abortionists, environmentalist wackos, the MSM, street thugs, illiterates, flag burners, anarchists, the Clintons, and Hollywood reprobates.
Heck, man, They've got love and tolerance in their hearts for all kinds of 'diverse' people.
See? Dems aren't so bad after all. They've got a huge message of love to run on, you hater.
My response is “if Trump were a Nazi, you’ d be in a prison camp now”.
The “off-Broadway” version of this played out in Wisconsin six years ago. It doesn’t end well for the lefties. Walker’s numbers improved in the recall vote, and except for a couple of stolen seats (bused in voters with store flyers for ID), the attempts to recall senators and reps also failed. More conservative judges were voted in. Now Wisconsin in purple trending red.

You got two very sick people on cable TV. The Nazi-infused thinking of Deutch and Scarborough is appalling.
The verisimilitude come so easy to them. They must lay awake nights contemplating Nazism and all its permutations.
We Conservatives will always remain more than curious just exactly what WAS the information BJC shared with DJT in that conversation the two had before Trump’s hat was thrown into the ring. Slick Willie said SOMETHING that caused alarms in the brain of future POTUS - Just what was shared? At the time, it was thought (personally) Bill had a plan to help his Hill become what she aspired to be... thus a nominee she might overcome. Given thought, the conclusion was brushed aside; why should Trump, a very well educated, wealthy businessman waste his time, money, intellectual ability in order to achieve something he might never have: the chance of winning. Being no one’s stooge - DJT considered Bill’s advice which begins another story.
“The election of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in NYC will strengthen the position of the crazies in the Democrat party.”
While they are the useful idiots of the left, the crazies can never match the big bucks of the liberal elites. How many big donors are in districts filled with multi-generational welfarians? The big donors control the party, and the “superdelegates” assure that. They aren’t going to fund some hoodrat who demonizes them; she’ll just remain the “queen of welfare reservation NY-14”. They know she won’t play well anywhere across the fruited plain where Americans go to work every day.
