What this means is that they have the power to record what ever you say and video what ever you do EVEN if you are not a member of Facebook. All you need to do is have the television or radio on. Your cellphone or computer would automatically obey the commands issued to it.

How can this possibly be legal? If true (BIG “if”!) then shouldn’t Suckerturd be heading to jail for trying this?

And why on earth does your phone have a receptor to these covert signals to turn on your microphone (and camera eye)?

What this means is that they have the power to record what ever you say and video what ever you do EVEN if you are not a member of Facebook. All you need to do is have the television or radio on. Your cellphone or computer would automatically obey the commands issued to it. It would require that you have their app installed on your phone, and that you give that app access to the microphone. Same with your computer. Most desktop systems don't even have a microphone... FB wants to know everything about you. Don't let them. If your phone or TV have the FB app installed, delete it.

There’s always more than one way to do something with software, and Facebook won’t be the only company doing it. I don’t have a smartphone, and other telephones are best used with noise canceling microphones.

Would this be legal in a two party wiretap rule state?
Or, is FB powerful enough that they could point to some hard-to-find clause in their user agreement and get away with it?

Advantage to “old people’s phones” with no smart features.

Sue them into oblivion. Breach of privacy.
Would probably do very well in all-party consent states.
Shoving it into an enormous eula isnt going to fly either.

I just bought a new TV and made sure NOT to get a “smart TV”. We don’t get cell phone coverage on my property either.

When the article says “your phone” does it mean any phone or a smart phone. I ask because I do not own a smart phone. I have my daughters old Motorola flip phone. I still however, have a land line.

Totally illegal wiretapping in 2 party consent states like PA and IL.
All you need to do is set your phone’s preferences to disable the mic on the FB app. On the iPhone go to settings, scroll down to the app, open its settings and disable the mic.
Or better yet, don’t install the FB app.
Even better, don’t do FB.
