Today, June 21, the Loudoun County (Virginia) Board of Supervisors (BoS) will consider a proposal from Supervisor Kristen Umstattd (D-Leesburg) to amend the Loudoun County ordinance dealing with the discharge of firearms, which will affect both hunting and shooting. If this passes, there are likely to be serious consequences.
Supervisor Umstattd is overreacting to a rare incident in Loudoun where a firearm was discharged carelessly and resulted in minor property damage.
Discharging a weapon is always a serious matter. If the Board reacts hastily to an isolated incident, that would be a serious mistake, but that may be what is about to happen in Loudoun County.
The proposal would ban shooting if there is another occupied structure within a half-mile of where you are shooting. That would pretty much ban shooting in the entire County!

The BoS may also consider other changes, as well. If you live in Loudoun County, I strongly suggest you attend this meeting. The meeting starts at 5 pm at:
Loudoun County Government Center Board Room, First Floor 1 Harrison Street, S.E. Leesburg, VA 20177
Also, especially if you cannot attend the meeting tomorrow, please email BOS@Loudoun.gov to make your opposition known to all supervisors.
I'm asking Freepers, no matter where they live, to send a comment to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors asking them to reject this proposal.
You must do it immediately.
Thank you!
Urban sprawl. The deer are a nuisance, and will be.outta control.
My county, Fauquier, won’t be far behind. The libs leave Loudoun and Fairfax in droves as they don’t like the congestion and high taxes and when they land out here, the first thing they do is demand that the county be just like the one they left. Then, things go to Hell... just like where they came from.
Can the cops shoot?
Libs are like the Borg.
Liberalism is like Ebola. It kills the host and moves on to another healthy body.
Locusts
“Can the cops shoot?”
No...only MS 13 can shoot.
Under current policies for immigration and guns. gangs are becoming the new militia.
What if I have a need to shoot outdoors because I find it necessary to the security of a free state?
The deer are already out of control in northern Virginia, having no natural predators. To solve that, the libs will no doubt be advocating for the return of urbanized coyotes and wolves - and then they will be wailing over their favorite lap/purse dogs being eaten. Injured children will not be of any concern. The north-of-the-Mason-Dixon line mentality has already moved down to I-66, and is moving further south each week. We’re moving out as soon as possible.
That's definitely true and I am even further out. But it's subtle. The libs are politically active. The natives are apathetic. Conservatives are also often apathetic. So the libs take over and advance their nanny state.
“Can the cops shoot?”
No.
The good news? This means no more dead black yutes.
I don’t believe they have this authority. What this achieves is putting gun owners on the defensive again. We’re ALWAYS on the defensive because we don’t want to act like the progressives and demonstrate in the street in front of their homes. Look what Antifa gets away with. They beat people up and the cops arrest the victim and throw him in jail. They burn and loot and the cops just stand back.
The left uses our belief in and adherence to the law against us. They’re after us on the local level and use the votes of the urbanites to rule us.
1) Record various gunshots
2) Randomly play them back at high decibels in various places
3) Burn through the County’s police response budget
4) Repeat
“1) Record various gunshots
2) Randomly play them back at high decibels in various places
3) Burn through the Countys police response budget
4) Repeat”
It looks like the VA definition of firearm does not include things that only fire blanks...
Just sayin’...
Youre are EXACTLY my thoughts.
Thanks!
So, as long as I remain *inside*, I can shoot all I want? That’s going to be rough on the sheetrock.
Several years ago, when they *banned* smoking outside, people warned us this would happen...camel’s nose under the tent, etc.
I don’t live there, but if I did and someone attacks me, I’m SHOOTING OUTSIDE, like it or not.
My life is worth more to me that some alderman’s Legislative record “ego trip”.
At some point, we’re going to have say “f**k you”, back.
>> Loudoun County, Virginia is Virginia’s northernmost county <<
No, that would be Frederick County. You can look it up.
You are correct. Thanks for the note.
