Telling Time
June 21, 2018
[Make] the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.
Ephesians 5:16
Westerners have watches. Africans have time. So said Os Guinness, quoting an African proverb in his book Impossible People. That caused me to ponder the times I have responded to a request with, I dont have time. I thought about the tyranny of the urgent and how schedules and deadlines dominate my life.
Moses prayed in Psalm 90, Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (v. 12). And Paul wrote, Be very careful, then, how you live . . . making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil (Ephesians 5:1516).
I suspect that Paul and Moses would agree that our wise use of time isnt just a matter of clock-watching. The situation may call for us to keep a tight scheduleor it may compel us to give someone an extended gift of our time.
We have but a brief moment to make a difference for Christ in our world, and we need to maximize that opportunity. That may mean ignoring our watches and planners for a while as we show Christs patient love to those He brings into our lives.
As we live in the strength and grace of the timeless Christ, we impact our time for eternity.
Time management is not about clock-watching, its about making the most of the time we have.
Psalm 90 is a worshipful conversation Moses has with God. The superscription reads, A prayer of Moses, the man of God. But even if we werent alerted that this psalm is a prayer, the language and tone clearly indicate the psalmist was talking to God. This prayer was spoken during a rough period in Israels history. It appears the people of God had experienced discipline (vv. 711, 15), which prompted Moses to talk to God about the brevity and fragility of human life in view of Gods eternal nature (vv. 16). The psalm includes many references to time, such as generations (v. 1), years (vv. 4, 9, 10, 15), day(s) (vv. 4, 9, 10, 12, 14, 15), morning and evening (v. 6).
Indeed, tough times can compel us to talk to the Lord about our brief time on earth and appeal to Him for His help (vv. 1217). They can also cause us to ask who may need the gift of our time.

Hi, radu! It WAS a good day, and it only got up to about 91...with fairly high humidity. I didn’t get out but once and that was to go to a VERY early [11am] lunch with a friend. it was pretty much breakfast for me. LOL!
How were things there? Weather pretty? Is Suvi feeling better today?

Ooo, lunch with a friend sounds like fun.
Much more fun than grocery shopping, which was my outing for the day. LOL
It was cooler here today due to clouds but it was really muggy. A few showers around but nothing here. Wasn’t pleasant going outside.
Tomorrow will be pretty much the same. I’ll have to go out for a bit because it’s the monthly Republican women’s meeting.
Suvi still isn’t eating as well as I’d like but she’s been active. That silly cat has more fun paying with nothing. LOL

I did not behave...went a bridge too far on house cleaning.
The joke is I have finally found house cleaning help and got so inspired that I started cleaning every thing in the china cabinet and bookcases.
I am crippled...Back is having a tantrum. I cannot finish but I got a lot done.
I am trying to freeze my back with ice packs to ease the anger.
At least I have something to show for the pain this time.

Things were going well until the internet went out. We were in the middle of trying to post the payroll and get the Direct Deposit file sent out.
And the thread was almost ready to go.....then the dreaded circle going around and around and around. We reported to IT...and they actually still had someone in the building. It is HARD to get ahold of them later in the day.
They walked through and said “it is just the Dimond area and was being worked on”. That would be us who work at the Dimond Center. It better not be out at home.
Payroll is posted. I’m working on a report now. I have to be home by 7p as the guy who is making the new screen door for the big glass door going out onto the deck is bringing it tonight.
