I took it to mean, and many millions of other Americans took it to mean, back to a time when we had lots of good paying middle class jobs....before social program exploded, jobs were outsourced, illegal immigrants flooded in and before political correctness took hold.
OF COURSE the standard Leftist tactic will be to scream “racism!” if you point to any previous time because screaming “racism!” is all they know how to do. Its their answer to every question and their explanation for any opposition to their socialist policies.
