1964-65 is about right

No hippies yet, no drug culture, no urban riots, Mexico was still a normal country, everything was still made in America, and Ted Kennedy hadn’t started mass-importing foreigners yet

Nailed it! San Francisco (where I was born and raised) was solid Republican for most of the century until 1964, when John Shelley became the first non-Republican mayor in over 50 years. He welcomed the hippies into town and screwed the city into a leftward spiral. The 1950s were awesome and great, by the 1970s was getting awful and grating.
