LeBron James reveals he played with ‘self-inflicted’ injured hand for majority of NBA Finals

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James revealed that he played the last three games of the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors with a “self-inflicted” injured hand.

Speaking at a news conference early Saturday, James – who had cast covering his right hand – admitted to hurting himself after punching a whiteboard out of frustration after Game 1.

"I let the emotions get the best of me and pretty much played the last three games with a broken hand," James said following Friday's Game 4 loss to the Warriors.

He explained that that he was upset by some calls that went against the Cavs late in the fourth quarter of their opening loss and he was upset they had missed their chance to win on the road. James scored 23 points in Game 4.

Sources told ESPN that James had two MRIs during the series and wore a soft cast when he wasn’t practicing, playing or in view of the media – as to not give the Warriors a competitive advantage. He would ice his hands after games and used tennis balls to strengthen his grip and to try to push out the swelling on his days off.

James described that Game 1 loss as "very emotional" for him.

"For a lot of different reasons," he said. "Understanding how important a game is on the road for our ball club, what [winning it] would have done for us. The way we played, the calls that were made throughout the course of that game, and I had emotions that the game was taken away from us. I had emotions that you just don't get an opportunity like this on the road against Golden State to be able to get a Game 1."

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

There is most likely a clause in his contract about self inflicted injuries giving the team the right to fine him or terminate his contract.

What a fraud this guy is. This was his story after getting stomped by the Celtics in game one (on the road) of their series and playing like crap:

“Game 1 has always been a feel-out game for me, if you’ve ever followed my history,” he said after the Cavaliers fell 108-83 Sunday night.

Now,
contrast that with his alibi for why he got angry and punched a whiteboard after game 1 against Golden State after which he quit on his team:

James described that Game 1 loss as “very emotional” for him.

“For a lot of different reasons,” he said. “Understanding how important a game is on the road for our ball club, what [winning it] would have done for us. The way we played, the calls that were made throughout the course of that game, and I had emotions that the game was taken away from us. How about NOT hitting a white board giving GS an advantage? Hey, Big Guy, you're a professional. Act like one.

On the other hand (pun intended), excuses are good too.

I probably haven’t watched the NBA since I was a kid.

Your statement gave me pause...and made me think.

I'm 68 years old...and in my life time...I have not watched the equivalent of an entire NBA basketball game.

It always bored me more than soccer...and that is one borrrring! game.

Plus the fact that 99% of the players were thugs.

Got no use for it...or the NFL, for that matter.

Saw Michael Jordon play a game with a 105 fever. Had to be helped off the court at time outs. He scored 25 points and helped his team beat Utah for the championship. Sorry LeBron

LeBron's head is screwed up in many ways. If you had a "team" of five LeBrons they would end up killing each other.

I watched all 4 of those games pretty closely.

I don’t understand why James isn’t called more often by the refs for Offensive Charging.

He drops his head & shoulder & turns into a steer wrestler.

He’s the clearly best player in the world, but Golden State has shown that it’s much better to have the best team than the best player.

I don't care for the Warriors' political opinions, but they are a great basketball team that is willing to work as a team to win. Not something we have seen much of in recent NBA history.

If Kevin Durant had LeBron's personality he could easily average 45 points a game - but the Warriors would get swept in the first round of the playoffs every time.
