Rent is becoming less affordable, particularly those who are low-income, and getting worse. A proposed increase for people using federal housing subsidies will most affect single mothers and their children, putting them at risk for homelessness, increasing their risk for domestic violence.
We knew Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carsons idea to encourage self-sufficiency would hurt, now we know now much: Federal subsidies are expected to jump 20 percent, according to an analysis by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities for the Associated Press. People already working every day would be squeezed even more.
Over 3.3 million extremely low-income Americans receive housing subsidies, and millions more are homeless or pay more than half their income in rent, locked out of housing subsidies because of HUD limits or lack of low-cost housing.
A majority of domestic violence survivors already have experienced financial abuse. This means their partner has kept them from their finances, wouldnt let them work, harassed them at work by showing up or calling excessively, or purposely destroyed their credit.
Physically abusive partners may abuse women to the point they cannot show up for work and lose their jobs. If women are able to leave an abusive partner, they often can only afford low-cost housing. But where will they go if they cant retreat to the safety of affordable housing?

Who knew?
Low income housing is a disaster
It’s ruined countless neighborhoods, businesses, and schools.
And brought criminal and drug elements into otherwise peaceful areas
I’m pretty sure there is a study linking climate change to domestic abuse.
And, as Ayn Rand observed, the LIH admin/support needs provided gub'mit jobs for politicians' friends and families.
The purpose of Section 8 housing is to import Democrat voters into Republican strongholds.
As well as the NFL and the Superbowl.
No, making it difficult for women to possess firearms so that a husband or boyfriend can beat them at their pleasure is more directly related to something like that as opposed to increased rent.
How is increasing federal subsidies going to hurt the renter?
So Ben Carson enables domestic violence? Ben Carson is in favor of domestic violence due to these policies?
Maybe we should start making the baby-daddys start chipping in?
Domestic abuse is linked to domestic abuse. Period.
It’s not about money, or lack thereof - it’s about character, and lack of self-control. When you believe the government is your daddy, or your spouse, then there no longer exists the incentive to be morally upright and self sufficient.
Whatever government touches, usually turns to sh*t - and that includes people.
I’m pretty sure there is “a” study linking climate change to domestic abuse.
I just searched for you, there is more than “a” study:)
Exactly. This rant acknowledges in passing that subsidies are increasing, but they don't let that get in the way of a good rant.
I dont see it here on this massive list, but it hasnt been updated in several years: http://www.numberwatch.co.uk/warmlist.htm
I’m just waiting for the pic to be posted....when, oh when shall it come...?
In before....

As an intake interviewer at a local non-profit food bank, I frequently interview women in this situation. If they are ready to leave the abuse shelter, we help them with furniture, house hold goods, etc. They hold a special place in our hearts.
Everything is linked to Climate Change!!
I made a four-egg cheese omelet this morning. (only ate 1/2 - now have 2nd breakfast in the fridge). Colby Jack and Cheddar cheese.
BUT when I flipped it, it did NOT flip evenly. So it wasn’t perfect like at IHOP or Denny’s.
I’m fairly certain it was Global Warming which caused that to occur.
Absolutely true. Bump!
There should be no taxpayer funded welfare.
