When I was in Montgomery last month, I saw a sign for somebody named Twinks or Twinkie. Who is that? We laughed whenever we saw it.

You don’t know what you are talking about.

I’m in this district! I know.

If you understood politics of the past 40 years or so of the South, and knew the history, you’d know that it was democrat back then. But the Progressive March Leftward tore through the nation and the democrats abandoned real American values for those of the Soviet Union.

Bright, like many older democrats in Alabama, switched to the Republican party because they started out as Conservative Democrats, but now that the democrat party represents socialists, communists and other blood-suckers of humanity and the exodus of Conservative Democrats to the Conservative party is complete.

Bright was about the last of the Conservative Democrats and now even he has seen the light.

Roby is a RINO who wants to pass Ryan’s Amnesty bill.

There’s no doubt in my mind; Roby’s got to go.

I wish I knew you were here, I would have bought you lunch!

It’s Twinkle Cavanaugh. she’s a fine Republican lady running for Lt Governor. She’s already got my vote.

From her webpage (http://twinkleforalabama.com/):

Twinkle Cavanaugh is a mother, a conservative, and a proven voice for pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment values. She is the best choice to lead the charge to restore our state’s image and elevate Alabama into a land of opportunity for generations to come.

As the president of the Public Service Commission, Twinkle has done more than just talk about Christian values. She has put them to work, leading the effort to return over $50 million to taxpayers, cutting her agency’s staff by 40%, and cutting her agency’s use of state vehicles by 60%. She even refused to take a state car for herself.

That’s how Twinkle Cavanaugh turns Christian values into conservative government.

Since last January, Twinkle has traveled over 40,000 miles on her personal vehicle while meeting, speaking with, and listening to thousands of Alabamians. With your help, she will bring her positive vision to the Lieutenant Governor’s office and make Alabama shine!

A)It doesn’t matter where either of us lives friend, publicly known facts are publicly known facts, I know all about political history,

B)You wanna tell the President he doesn’t know what he’s talking about? At this point he knows Roby better than either of us. And he clearly doesn’t give a fig about Bright’s supposed support for him.

C)Bright ran for Congress as a democrat, not in 1974, or 1982, but in 2008, on the same ticket with Huissien Obama, 14 years after Republicans started winning the large majority of non-Black seats in the South and 4 years after the last actually conservative democrat in Congress (Ralph Hall) switched, no one could still claim “history of the South” or “my daddy was a democrat” as an excuse at that point. Unless he was a completely clueless imbecile (which is a disqualifier for office) he knew he was seeking to join a socialist caucus that would be serving a socialist President.

He then (though you claimed he didn’t) voted for Pelsoi for Speaker.

Only now (Doug Jones election aside) with the Bama dems no longer a viable party for the large majority of White people, is he saying he’s a Republican.

I welcome him to the party and urge him to make his bones as a loyal Republican. I join the President though in hoping he’s not welcomed back to Congress. If the third place dude (seems like an ok guy, those charges he was acquitted of seem like trumped up BS) had made the runoff I’d say go ahead and jettison Roby but in no way is she bad enough to take a flier on the likes of Bright.

You and I (and the President) need to agree to disagree I guess. If Trump had endorsed Bright, I would have disagreed with him so I respect that.

I know both of them. You only read about them.

So there’s that.

I will always vote against RINO’s and liberals, whether they’re Red or Blue; it is Conservative versus Liberal, not Republican versus democrat.

Roby is a Bush Republican. That’s what I’m trying to tell you.

I voted for Mo Brooks when Pres. Trump endorsed Luther Strange, too. I voted for Donald Trump and I will again.

But bottom line, you don’t know Bobby Bright or Martha Roby; you just read about them.

It’s a shame you won’t listen to a loyal conservative FReeper who’s been posting here for 20 years and hold what you read about from some non-resident to be more truthful.

The term has no objective meaning. It conveys the same significance as a gorilla beating its chest.

Rather than relying on such nonsense, evaluate candidates on their own merits (or lack thereof). As always. The touchstone is the Constitution ... not any particular politician or office-holder.

She sounds great! We were so curious.

We would have bought YOU lunch: we went to Chris’ Hot Dogs, Martin’s, ate at a decent Indian Restaurant in the eastern part of the city and had a great Italian meal downtown. I like Montgomery very much.

AB, I think you’re being a bit too generous towards Bright. Although clearly he voted well to the right of the Communist average for Democrats, he certainly wasn’t voting along the lines of Zell Miller. He lost reelection to a subpar Roby. Frankly, I don’t care for either of them. She’s too liberal and flaky, and his voting record was still to her left. Trump supports her, if only because Bright did vote for Pelosi for Speaker. That may be an unforgiveable sin.

The President supported Luther Strange, also, but Trump voters in Alabama didn’t.

That doesn’t mean they don’t like Trump—they do very much—including me—but sometimes someone is too high up to know what’s been going on down in the weeds.

I encouraged Bright to go Republican BEFORE he became Representative. He blew it off (because he was looking for BLACK votes—who just don’t make up anywhere near a majority, and he thought he could get them and the remaining old conservative democrats on his side. BAD calculation. But it did work—for only ONE term), and after winning in 2008, we replaced him, in 2010 with Roby, who, from her position in the Montgomery City Council, seemed very conservative.

She ran against TEA partiers. She has never been a fighter nor a conservative.

She knifed GOP winner Trump in the back when should have kept her mouth shut. The “Grab ‘em by the &%^&%^&” thing came out on a Friday—she set up a microphone to denounce him that Saturday morning. Remember, this was AFTER the convention. It was EITHER him or Clinton. It was too late. She should had kept her mouth shut. Trump didn’t even get a chance to defend himself at that time. She couldn’t wait a couple of days???

I said that moment, I will never vote for her again! I’m sticking to it.

Bright has a chance, and I’m going to give it to him. ONCE. If he doesn’t show conservatism he’ll be replaced in 20. There are LOTS of good conservatives here who can replace either of them. Right now it can’t be Roby. She’s done.

The first time I heard of Bright was when he defeated Mayor Folmar, so I didn’t have a good opinion of him at the time. I thought he was going to play the role David Vann did in Birmingham in the ‘70s when he defeated the last GOP Mayor, playing the squish-lib White panderer before handing off the office to a long string of corrupt Communist Blacks. I’m amazed given Montgomery’s demographics now that Mayor Strange can hold on.

Anyway, as I mentioned in a prior post, had Bright ran as a Republican back in 2008, he would not have likely prevailed in the primary. It was only the sour grapes of Harri-Anne Smith that allowed Bright to beat Jay Love. Presumably Love would’ve been a better Congressman than either Bright or Roby.

I wouldn’t be enthused about a choice between either Roby or Bright. As you pointed out, it’s not the first time Trump chose a, subpar, nominee to support. Voting for Pelosi seemed to trump siding with the Never Trumpers after that non-issue with “grabbing pussy” as a more grievous offense to him.

I’m not here to lobby you one way or the other, all I can say is you have to vote your conscience. Hey, I’d probably write in Jay Love or Terry Everett. ;-)

Alabama damn well should have listened to Trump on that score, I don't see how anyone could disagree after Moore blew it.

Twinkle Andress Cavenaugh is a perpetual candidate for something and pretty useless. She wins the occasional office but never does anything useful. I figure it must be the unusual name that gets her elected...pure name recognition.

My first Alabama campaign was for Fob James...

Well, think about where we all were ten years ago. I voted for Love (who wouldn’t? ;->) and also McCain. Wish I had that one back.

In all the years I’ve been here I’ve been for one thing and then regretted it later, but that’s probably most of us.

George W. Bush.
The Invasion of Iraq.
McCain. But of course, Sarah. But then her family took her down.
The TEA Party.
Believing the Republicans that if they could JUST win back the House...
Mitt Romney.
Believing the Republicans if they could JUST win back the Senate...
Jeff Sessions.
Donald J. Trump.

So far, Trump has been the best by a mile.

Still, we all supported some idiots or idiotic decisions at one point or another.

Time will continue to tell.

Which of James’s campaigns ? He first got started back in ‘78 (you probably remember that he actually was a Republican initially, but because except for the 3 GOP incumbents in Congress at the time, you couldn’t get elected squat to statewide office, so he switched out of mere convenience to the Dems, before switching back 16 years later).

The only reason I voted for the GOP Presidential ticket in ‘08 was that I thought McQueeg would croak from the stress and we’d have Palin. Like you, I repudiated that vote. I warned at the time that the candidates were all horrible. ‘12 was the absolute nadir. I didn’t climb aboard that abortion, as I had fully repudiated the equally fraudulent Willard 6 years earlier. I voted for Congressman Virgil Goode on the 3rd party line for President.

Of course, some didn’t realize until later that the ‘08 and ‘12 elections weren’t legitimate at all. It was a pre-selected farce. The Democrats and the leftist RINO Establishment had already anointed Zero. They just had to make sure he drew no legitimate Conservative opponent who could actually stop him. McQueeg and Willard were behind sabotaging Trump in ‘16 to assist Hillary. Corrupt and treasonous to the core. Note neither ever went “nuclear” against Zero, yet they have never hesitated to do so against Conservatives. I hope both of them end up in prison (or shall I say the 4 of them, Hillary and Zero, too).

And finding out, too, that the Bush family was all a part of that same corrupt apparatus was sickening. But both pretty much paved the way for Bubba the Rapist in ‘92 and Zero in ‘08. I say that it was Reagan’s gravest error to have selected a Bush to be his running mate. If he had gone with a statesman like Paul Laxalt, we’d have gotten 16 years of Conservative GOP rule in the WH, perhaps longer. The Clintoons would never have gotten out of Arkansas and Zero might still be the nobody State Senator he was until 2004, pining away to be Mayor of Chicago or succeeding Bobby Rush in Congress.

Of course, our biggest mistake is putting faith in politicians at all. We’ll support President Trump as long as he does right, but there’s always the worry he might veer off the wrong way. We’re better off putting our faith in God.

I was active duty from 1976 through 1998, so I wasn’t doing anything for any candidate.

After I retired, I canvased for Fob in his 1998 loss. First time out of the gate I backed the loser, but hell’s bells, he wasn’t a democrat! And Siegelman was a crook.

Since I left the military I’ve been helping out every campaign season for a variety of Republicans, all voluntary.

The Roy Moore thing was also a big mistake, but I do believe the media broke him. He would have been a quirky senator, but never a socialist. Big Luther was crookedly appointed, so Mo Brooks was the only logical choice, but he lost. Jones will not be reelected. I’m hoping Mo runs.

I’ve come to see some of the unconditional support I’ve been giving Republicans was a mistake. With the democratic party vanquished here, I am now RINO hunting!

1998 ? Yeah, they were out to get ole Fob. He was weakened badly in the primaries. Winton Blount the 3rd was the Establishment choice. Blount would have lost to crook Don Single-term, anyhow. Single-term was the last gasp of the Democrat party. I knew he wouldn’t win reelection in 2002. The Republicans from now on would have to be utterly crooked or vile (or badly damaged) in order to lose to any Democrat now.

I blame the Senate fiasco squarely on ex-Gov. Bentley. Any Republican with a pulse could’ve held the seat as an appointee, so long as they weren’t tainted. Instead, he chooses to reward Big Luther for pushing the corruption investigation down the road. That alone was enough to risk him losing to a Democrat in the special. I endorsed (couldn’t vote, since I’m in TN) Chief Justice Moore. Frankly, though, the man should be on the U.S. Supreme Court. I think he is one of our nation’s greatest jurists, standing up to fascism. I knew he would have some trouble getting to the Senate, but I had no idea the disgusting lengths to which the media, both parties and other dark forces would go to utterly destroy his character. Notice how all the sleazy sex allegations and the “bimbos” behind them vanished into the ether once the election was over ?

In hindsight, your vote for Mo Brooks was probably the most wise. However, I do believe the same dark forces would’ve made up lies against him and painted him with the stereotypical “Southern, racist nutter” brush to destroy his candidacy.

As for Jones, who is quite obviously toast, and not even bothering to try to moderate himself, I’m thinking that a new candidate entirely might be a better bet. If Twinkle Cavanaugh prevails for Lt Governor, I think she should be the 2020 nominee against Jones. We need more Conservative GOP women in office. She’ll have nothing to lose by running, plus if she comes up short, she can run to succeed Gov. Ivey in 2022. Mo Brooks will have to give up his safe House seat, and he’ll face those same vile attacks as I mentioned above.

You’re quite right about blind support of any Republican for office. That is often a big mistake, especially when they’re especially vile/rotten/corrupt. I stopped doing that 20 years ago. We had a bum RINO who was elected Governor here in TN, Don Sundquist, in 1994. He was an establishment hack and did little to nothing to dislodge the crooked Democrat machine ensconced in power for eons here. On the Democrat side, a semi-Trumpian (before Trump) populist named John Jay Hooker managed to win the nomination for Governor. Back in the 1960s/70s, Hooker had been the darling of the party left trying to dislodge the centrist Dem establishment of that time. When he won the nomination in 1970, he became the first Democrat nominee since 1920 to lose to the Republicans (also going down with him was the execrable Sen. Albert Gore, Sr.). In the years following, Hooker became a perennial candidate/gadfly. By the 1990s, he was a strong constitutionalist, albeit populist.

In any event, when Hooker won the nomination in 1998, he could be viewed as being to RINO Sundquist’s right. I endorsed Hooker and voted for him (the only Democrat I’ve voted for for Governor since I could vote to date). You never saw such a scramble from the corrupt Democrat party to climb into bed with Gov. Sundquist. The media ignored Hooker, the Democrats did the same. Hooker was the only honest figure running for Governor, and they hated him for it. I knew if he was elected, he’d have taken a flamethrower to the corrupt bipartisan cabal (much like Trump 20 years later). He was too much a threat and had to be stopped, and he was. Sundquist, of course, went on to an odious and disastrous second term. He was then more than happy to foist his 1994 Democrat opponent, Pharoah Phil Bredesen, onto the state after his tenure (Bredesen flagrantly violating campaign financing laws, using his massively deep pockets to buy the job despite the GOP lean of the state — Sundquist ran a rich puppet candidate in the GOP primary who all but bankrupted the winner, Van Hilleary — who had no money for the fall election, yet still almost beat Bredesen).

Yup, each state has their sleazy politics, but the corruption and collusion between the Democrats and the Establishment RINOs are the worst, hands-down. Between the two of them, they’ve helped destroy this country and a multitude of states. When in doubt, it’s almost always the best to pick an OUTSIDER candidate to run (then, of course, we’ve got some insiders pretending to be outsiders — they always find a new trick to lie to people). As someone said, barring some extraordinary figure, it’s best to treat politicians like babies with full diapers, change as often as possible.

P.S. I didn’t say it earlier, but thank you for your 22 years of service in the military.
