THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
JEROME KERN
THE CAT AND THE FIDDLE
Kern teamed up with Otto Harbach in 1931 for a musical about a composer and an opera singer. It ran successfully for a year.
POOR PIERROT
Mabel was Englands version of Bobby Short, the ultimate piano bar singer. This is from 1956.

He kicks butt for sure.
But Uriah Heep without Hensley and Byron isn’t Uriah Heep. The two of them together wrote the songs that made the band so popular. Without them, no matter who the frontman, the band just wasn’t the same. I lost interest.
But I really liked Lawton with Lucifer’s Friend.

I can't wait. Things are so much fun when you're around.
We've got Jerome Kern in Hollywood along with Berlin, Porter and Gershwin in the coming weeks. Great stuff coming up soon.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
JEROME KERN
THE CAT AND THE FIDDLE: POOR PIERROT
Bolcom was one of the giants of the Great Ragtime Revival of the Seventies. His recording of Kern tunes with Joan Morris from 2008 is a monument to the songbook. Bolcoms arrangement permits you to hear the beauty of the melody.
Joan Morris & William Bolcom: Poor Pierrot
Tune in next week for more Jerome Kern and the Great American Songbook.
