According to a report in a leading Arabic website, Moscow has given its consent to Israeli military strikes deep in Syrian territory.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat reported Friday that Moscow and Jerusalem held talks Thursday concerning Syria and agreed to “limit” the Iranian presence in the south of the country.

Israeli counterpart Avigdor Liberman met met in Moscow with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, while Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Vladimir Putin spoke about Syria over the phone.

The two sides agreed to “limit” Iran, keep its forces away from the south, and to allow the IDF to target "menacing bases in the deep Syrian territories," according to the influential London-based website.

The Kremlin confirmed that the conversation between Putin and Netanyahu focused on “some aspects of the Syrian settlement.”

A Russian source told Asharq Al-Awsat that Moscow refuses to offer details about the understanding with Jerusalem "to respect the balance in its separate relationships with each of Israel and Iran" – as the report phrased it.

“Russia is somehow embarrassed because talks with the Israelis mainly focus on a plan to remove Iran and its forces from southern Syria,” the source added.

People have trouble comprehending just how close Israel and Russia are - and they are VERY CLOSE, and yes, that’s a good thing (except to the Left).

If Israel were somewhat weaker, I don’t think we’d be seeing this. Russia’s interests in the ME have seemed to align with Iran’s for quite a while.

This article is an interesting read about Russia’s seemingly passive stance on what the West would consider weakness or backing down to “ provocations”

Yep, that’s the key to the relationship. I doubt very much that Israel planned it, but the Russians there are almost like human shields to Putin - he doesn’t want to blow them off the map.

But whatever it is, they are VERY TIGHT now, regardless of what we may think or want.

Russia has become the regional broker among all the warring factions in the Middle East, replacing the United States.

The Israelis know this even if their dopey neocon counterparts at the State Dept. haven’t figured it out yet.

Putin works with Israel when it suits Russian interests, and against them when it doesn't. They pretty much always vote against Israel at the UN, and they have a long history of supporting Israel's enemies.

Russia has been talking about Iran reducing it's presence in Syria now that ISIS is all but defeated, but Iran wants to keep a large, long term/permanent presence. Russia wants a stable Syria for it's military bases and pipelines, and knows Iran and Hezbollah attacking Israel from their Syrian positions works against their goals.

Getting Iran out also contributes to getting the US out, leaving Russia as the only significant foreign influence in Syria, a rare case where Russian, American and Israeli interests align.

Lots of ethnic Russians in Israel, and they generally don’t care for Muzzies, so that changes things.

They still can’t get over that the Soviet Union collapsed. Increasingly, leftards become reactionaries.

He might also consider that sponsoring Arab wars against Israel is a losing proposition. If it’s war, they win and Russian engineering and assistance humiliates Russia. If it’s just sniping and skirmishing, we’re not going anywhere, so why not deal with us instead. We don’t do crushing defeats due to bad training and morale.

Good news.
