Poland is willing to pay the U.S. up to $2 billion for the installment of a permanent American military base in the nation.
The ministry goes a step further in trying to coax the U.S. into agreeing to the terms, adding it is willing to share the burden of defense spending, make the decision more cost-effective for the U.S. government and allay any concerns for Congress in uncertain budgetary times.
Poland has long asked for American support, including troops and a permanent military base, for decades.
For the first time since the Second World War, one European country has taken a province by force from another European country, Sikorski told The New York Times. America, we hope, has ways of reassuring us that we havent even thought about. There are major bases in Britain, in Spain, in Portugal, in Greece, in Italy. Why not here?
Poland is, notably, one of the NATO member nations that has agreed to President Donald Trumps call for members to cough up two percent, or more, of their GDPs to military defense. Poland has done that since 2015.
The proposal comes nearly one month before members of NATO gather in Brussels for a summertime summit. Russia, a NATO partner country, isnt likely to take the Polish offering to America well, which could complicate Polands relationship with other member nations, like Italy and Germany.
Both Italy and Germany have expressed an intent to smooth over relations with Moscow.
Poland is likely fearing Russias continued influence and takeover of Ukraines Crimea region a campaign the Kremlin began four years ago during Obamas administration.

SOLD!!!
Warsaw is on my list of places to visit in the next 2-3 years. Have a handful of trips to Europe over that time period.
Go a step further and move all US base facilities in Germany to Poland. Watch the screaming from local German economies.
Sounds like the Polish are very smart and good allies.
All they are doing is stirring the pot over US troops based in Germany. At some point (probably by spring of 2019), Trump will lay down the card that most US Air Force and Army assets are leaving Germany....for Poland and the UK. The Germans will go ballistic.
And the UK??? That’ll never happen...
Sounds like the Polish are very smart and good allies.

Poland suffered under the Nazis and then the Communists. They know the score.
Reposition every U.S. base in Germany to Poland and Romania.
If the Fulda Gap didn’t exist, it would be an excellent idea. It’s excellent for no other reason than it is apparent the Germans are bent on using the Euro to do what Hitler failed to do.
The US is being invaded through its borders, whereas Polish borders are secure.
Maybe Poland can build a base to defend our borders?
They’ve stood the test of time.
Unfortunately your suggestion doesn’t carry much economic affect on Germany. We pulled 95% of our troops out of Germany between 1993 and 2007, after the end of the Cold War.
There are about 34,000 US Army and US Air Force personnel currently in Germany. The only Army combat unit in Germany is the 2nd ACR at Grafenwohr/Vilsek Training Area. USAREUR HQ is in Wiesbaden. There are still a few maintenance and supply depots and a major hospital around Kaiserlauten. The USAF has a couple of air bases left, Ramstein and Bitburg. This map shows all of the locations for US forces in Germany as of 2014: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_military_deployments
Nearly all of the US Army garrisons that existed when I was in Germany for my two tours there are now closed. The 3 posts I actually served at have been closed for 15 years.
Grey Friar
Actually; at this point, I think we should pull out of the UK as well.
It would be nice if we could support Poland, but that would just put US forces between two unfriendly powers - the EU and the Sov, er, Russians.
Their position would be completely untenable.
Although unlikely in the near term, a change in gov't to one that's less than completely favorable to our country (ex. Germany) present's problems.
At some point, we need to keep our military men/women/machines at home, keep them the most advanced while keeping our commitments to protect our friends and allies from attack and save the money to rebuild our country and MAGA.
HOORAY Poland
And some to Hungary and Czechoslovakia.
$2 Billion and all the pierogi we can eat. Deal!
