It’s the sort of thing that drives animal-rights advocates and other elite bunny-hugging liberals wild, to the delight of politically incorrect red-blooded MAGA-men. As NBC News reports, the Trump administration is bringing back savage hunting techniques to federal lands in Alaska:
The Trump administration is moving to reverse Obama-era rules barring hunters on some public lands in Alaska from baiting brown bears with bacon and doughnuts and using spotlights to shoot mother black bears and cubs hibernating in their dens.
There are a lot of humans, much less bears, who can’t resist bacon and doughnuts. But before you can say “Sarah Palin,” there’s more:
Under the proposed changes, hunters would also be allowed to hunt black bears with dogs, kill wolves and pups in their dens, and use motor boats to shoot swimming caribou.
These and other hunting methods - condemned as cruel by wildlife protection advocates - were outlawed on federal lands in 2015. That was, of course, under President Obama, who hated Real Americans.

I understand both sides of the debate about hunting over bait. In some places it’s the only effective way to hunt. For example there are places in Texas where the animals have miles of thick mesquite to hide in. You can’t go in after them, they would hear you crunching through the bush well before you ever saw them. If you want a chance to shoot one you have to lure them out. Yet I see hunters who denounce feeders but see nothing wrong with setting a tree stand over a field of crops. Also some hunters are disabled to one degree or another. I used to hunt, but now I have bad joints and can’t walk more than a couple hundred yards at a time due to the pain. I could never do a spot and stalk hunt. If I did hunt now it would pretty much have to be some “unsportsmanlike” method.
Never hunted, but took yearly fishing trips to Canada for many a year. The big game season was relatively short and happened at the end of the fishing season. If you take fly in trips there aren't any trails to speak of. The terrain doesn't permit tracking. They put out a bait or make calls and blast the creature when it shows up. That isn't my cup of tee, but as a fisherman it is less likely there will be a troublesome bear at the outpost cabin while I am there.
Fast forward to Alaska. The transportation fees, lodge fees, guide fees, and permit fees are huge. If you can't even got a shot off at big game, why would you spend $20K. Word gets around..

Animal rights advocates think all hunting is cruel and should be outlawed.
Every hunting season and the limits set for harvesting the game are derived from scientific wildlife management plans.
The anti hunters are not basing their openions on science, they react from passion. No science, just how they feel about a sport they know nothing about.
Alaska has laws guaranteeing it’s citizens the RIGHT to subsistence hunting. Wild game makes up the vast majority of protein consumed there.
Sorry, the Do-good idiots from the cities believe they actually know what goes on there or how they live, and want to make stupid laws that inhibit their historic lifestyle.
Talked with a bear hunter out training his dogs in a remote area of Western NC a couple of years ago. He had a six dogs with no two alike in breeding.
It was fascinating to hear him describe each dog’s trait and how that characteristic contributed to the hunt. I was most surprised by the little dogs whose job it was to nip at the bear’s rear-end.
I have a fond affection for Plott Hounds. Tried to make one an indoor pet once. Stupid move on my part. Fantastic hunting dog but was dumber than dirt on a human/pet level.

Deer season meant steak at our house. Gutted my first deer at age 18. I’m 75 now. Still love deer meat. My son in law stocks me up.
Under your plan how would you cull the murderous deer populations?

Asking me about ‘murderous’ deer confuses me. I don’t if it’s a joke, sarcasm or real question so I’ll just stick to what I said above for all manner of hunting.

How do we define baiting? I know of someone who had a pesky deer, and put out a salt lick. I asked, isn’t that baiting? He told me you leave it out, and after a while you take it away, and then he comes looking for it ... “blam!”. No bait.
To force them up a tree so you can catch them. Bears are dangerous. Very dangerous.
I would be willing to bet that your local elementary school does not feature bear proof trash containers in the playground and that the dog park in your neighborhood does not have signs warning users to watch for bears. How many of your neighbors have lost pets to wolves I wonder? Has the school bus driver ever warned of a wolf kill near a bus stop?
This is Alaska. I don’t care where you live in the lower 48. It’s different here.
Some people don’t live with bears in their back yard either.
They tree the Bears, and hunters can look them over, deciding if they want to tag them. Houndsmen live for the chase. As a fringe benefit, bears learn to fear people.
It's an "ethical" thing that you obviously don't understand......Not even Kansas farmers hunt down coyotes during birthing season and kill the parents and the cubs.......
Oh yeah...When dogs catch up to a bear a few will bark and jump in front of the bear, then one will come from behind and nip it’s butt...The bear will jump around and it starts all over again from the other side...
Back in the ‘70’s when I hunted them, we’d film the dog and bear “fights” as we called them with 8mm cameras...We’d be right there 8-10 feet away...it was a blast!!!!
Grass, mostly. There tummies are ‘t ready for a heavy meal after hibernating.
