Former Attorney General Eric Holder blasted President Donald Trumps demand to investigate possible federal meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign as dangerous and democracy threatening in a message posted Monday afternoon. Trump demand for DOJ investigation is dangerous/democracy threatening. DOJ response is disappointing, Holder lamented on Twitter. There is no basis/no predicate for an inquiry. Its time to stand for time-honored DOJ independence. That separation from White House is a critical part of our system.
On Sunday, President Trump took to Twitter to demand that the Justice Department probe politically-motivated spying on his campaign.
I hereby demand, and will do so officially tomorrow, that the Department of Justice look into whether or not the FBI/DOJ infiltrated or surveilled the Trump Campaign for Political Purposes and if any such demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration! the President said Sunday.
If anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a presidential campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate action, Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein said after ordering the Justice Department watchdog to probe whether the FBIs counterintelligence operation against the Trump campaign was tainted by political bias.
Trump is meeting with FBI Director Christopher Wray, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and DNI Head Dan Coats at the White House on Monday to discuss the Justice Departments request.
Holder himself benefited from a breach of time-honored DOJ independence while Barack Obama was in the Oval Office. President Obama asserted executive privilege to shield an investigation into then-Attorney General Holder and Fast & Furious, a DOJ operation which supplied firearms to Mexican cartels one of which was used to murder Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

Eric, the DOJ is part of the Executive Branch.
It will be very interesting if evidence were to surface showing the FBI also planted an informant in the Bernie Sanders campaign in order to “protect” him, too.
democracy threatening
An unAmerican tell. Anyone that calls us a democracy is suspect.
...and to the republic for which it stands.
The useless pos Holder is shooting blanks.
The strangest thing about the statement by him.....
“if anyone did infiltrate or surveil participants in a presidential campaign for inappropriate purposes, we need to know about it and take appropriate action”
He signed one of the FISA warrants. How would he not know because they surely included it in the FISA application? We have heard that there was other intelligence besides the Steele dossier in the application and he signed off on it! This is why they refuse to turn over the FISA application because it is full of engineered sourcing using intelligence operatives who were tasked with making contact and striking up conversation with campaign officials.
“we need to know” - but he did know. His signature says he knew.
The key to that statement is “inappropriate purposes.” Notice how the spin is changing from Clapper...... they are going to try and claim their purpose was noble and appropriate and they were doing it to “protect the nation.” I am not the smartest guy in the room by any stretch, but I have learned a few things and when they “change the narrative of the spin” you have to pay attention.
They are acknowledging that it happened now after over a year of this debacle, but what they are now going to claim is that it was “appropriate” and it was done to protect the President. Yes, it is laughable given the harm it has done to this administration, but it is the kind of justification their supporters will buy and lawyers can hide behind. Clapper recognizes this and his comments on CNN this weekend were a signal to participants to change the narrative from outright denial to one of righteous motivation. It is also a defacto admission that the bigwigs in the previous administration who have testified before congress and made numerous statements that “lacked candor” about this debacle were doing so to protect intelligence assets. They will hide behind that also.
Well, we won’t know until we get there now will we Mr Holder?
Where there’s smoke there’s usually fire.
IOW, Trump is not allowed to use the resources at his disposal to find out what is going on.
This whole “threat to democracy” meme for INVESTIGATING whether the FBI/DOJ spied on Trump is amusing.
And a giant tell.
These people, for some reason, are really agitated over the concept.
Wonder what it is....?
There is an old southern expression that would seem to apply to these nervous Democrats:
“I can hear them jail doors clanging!”
A. It’s OK for Dems to launch a phony investigation into a non-crime using a Special Counsel that can only be authorized to investigate a real crime.
B. It’s not OK for Reps to launch an investigation of the phony Dem investigation.
Makes sense to me. Snort. This from the first AG ever to be subpoenaed by Congress...and blew them off with zero penalty.
Holder for Prison.
And for the Republicans, LOL!
Come on Dems, bring us your worst. Please.
(imitating Henny Youngman)
Well, if Eric Holder says ..., then there really must be a need to check it out.
What a lying buffoon. Of all the obama Admin, he and valjar, are the two worst besides the two con men Michael and Barry of course.
If there’s no basis for an inquiry, then Holder and others have nothing to worry about, right?
:: Eric, it is called blowback. You are getting a faceful ::
The unfortunate result of a “salad tossing*” incident.
* check urban dictionary
“If nothing wrong was done, then you have nothing to worry about, right? “
And I seem to remember some past democrat claiming that “the seriousness of the charge(s) compels us to investigate...”.
Turnabout is fair play, no?
Wasn’t there evidence that Hillary’s campaign sabotaged Bernie’s? I know when I was in Wisconsin there were Bernie signs everywhere not one for Hillary.
Who in their right mind pays any attention to what this criminal Holder has to say? All we want from him is a confession followed by imprisonment.
“There is no basis/no predicate for an inquiry.”
If you read the above, and ignore just how corrupt he is, and rather just take him at his word, that means to me that HE HAS ACCESS TO NON-PUBLIC INFORMATION - in order to make that claim.
So I want to know how he obtained it, and if it means putting him under oath, so be it.
Exactly.
They are trying to impeach him on completely bogus charges and then they would try and find some reason to put him and his family in prison.
The worm is turning and you can bet he is going to go after them.
