When the shooter left the room briefly, Abel and others left the closet and tried to barricade the door. But the shooter pushed it open, spotted a student he knew, and with anger said, "Surprise!" before shooting the student in the chest.
"I'm still trying to process everything," Abel said in an interview.
One of Pagourtzis' classmates who died in the attack, Shana Fisher, "had 4 months of problems from this boy," her mother, Sadie Rodriguez, wrote in a private message to the Los Angeles Times on Facebook. "He kept making advances on her and she repeatedly told him no."
Pagourtzis continued to get more aggressive, and she finally stood up to him and embarrassed him in class, Rodriguez said. "A week later he opens fire on everyone he didn't like," she wrote. "Shana being the first one." Rodriguez didn't say how she knew her daughter was the first victim.

Exactly! Anyone telling you mental illness is better treated today that 50 years ago is ignorant on the topic.
While the population has more than doubled since the 1950s when 500,000 Americans were institutionalize... the number institutionalized today is about 100,000. While drugs and other things have changed treatment and helped many... the belief pharmacology has solved 90% of those with mental illness (which is what you need to believe to accept the current institutionalized numbers) is wholesale ignorance
“She had four months of problems with Pagourtzis, her mother, Sadie Rodriguez, told the Los Angeles Times. He kept making advances on her and she repeatedly told him no.
So this asshole guy stood out like a sore thumb what with the trench coat and annoying people and all. Back in the day a couple of rough men would have made his mind right. But the useless school administration who probably had zero tolerance for bananas that look like guns just turned a blind eye. Probably on their “radar” though.
The best teaching for the young is the example of the adults.
I am in the workforce at two jobs trying to ‘get the job done’. Showing up and working is just one way to present an example to others.
I must reject selfishness and anger at all times in my own home. I must not intoxicate myself with anything that will distract me from functioning right.
I’m a currently sober drunk and even religious belief was an intoxicating distraction from taking the right actions.
Jesus spoke clearly about hypocrisy and false distracting legalistic teaching like I have lived through and experienced. Pharisees and Sadducees are among us today but I need to not be one of them.
The kid is just as guilty as Cruz, but actually, though he seems to be wrong in other ways, but not as merely crazy as Cruz, for in Cruz no logical motive seems evident.
I was a geeky, low-confidence teenager who weighed 120lb. dripping wet. Girls were constantly turning me down and doing other unkind things to me.
I never went and shot any of them. Adolescence hasn’t changed. Society has.
Exactly....

I agree with most of what you said. Parts of it are technically true, but there’s another aspect of the tech experience you’re forgetting thought.
For instance, these kids are also using FaceBooking, Instagraming, Snapchatting, Tweeting and other tech tools.
So in a way they are isolated, but then they also network in very negative manners. I’m sure there are some decent innocent ways to use these tools, but these kids have a group broadcast set up.
If someone offends one of them, the word is out instantly. Then people from that group message their groups. You could have literally hundreds of kids aware of an issue before they get back to school. Heck, in some instances the whole school.
If a guy won’t take no for an answer, it shouldn’t take more than a few days to get him on our “S” list. If he can’t “get it” within a week, it’s time to talk to parents. If he’s showing evidence of being wigged out or dressing in strange ways or revealing evidence of being a participant in dark arts, or making borderline violent comments, I’d get the school and possibly police involved.
Four months?
Kids are savvy enough to know who is fringe. Just ask them.
.
I figured that it was going to be something like this.
He coudda just sent her a nastygram.
Humiliation can be very destructive. Let me ask this.
Did this young woman tell this guy she would start outing him in public, if he didn’t leave her alone? Chance are she did.
Public humiliation is also one of the last resorts to get through to a guy that has missed every other signal of rejection, and refuses to stop.
What can a kid expect he has done something like this, more of the same, “Please quit, I’ve asked your for months to”, old thing.
She evidently had’t told school officials, out of respect for him. He just didn’t get “NO” on any level.
Or, did she wiggle her hot salsa ass and give him the come on knowing she was going to humiliate him
Bert, she’s dead. Are you trying to imply there could be some justification for it?
I don’t care if she stripped naked in front of him there in public. He wasn’t allowed in to be her boyfriend, and that’s all there is to it.
Im not blaming her. I pity her and not him. But yes, the war between the sexes can turn deadly, it seems.
“Wiggle her hot salsa ass”
Maybe you’re getting your weird fantasies confused with the killer’s.
Wiggling her ass? Moldering in her grave?
She was navigating, as we all did as teenagers, a new and frightening world, and she was trying to get that smelly, trench-coated monkey off her back. I’m sure we all know what it was like — I sure do — to be humiliated at that age and wanting a giant hole to open up in the ground and swallow us. The public humiliation, this time, was warranted, in my view.
Yes, she is moldering in her grave while others here seem to think she was responsible for her own death. Typical of some freepers.
